Foo Americans

[edit]

As with the other Foo American articles, this article needs to discuss their arrival in the US, settlement and achievements.

Most of the first- and second-generation Indonesian-Americans I've met in the NY/NJ area are children of people who were local staff at the Embassy in Washington, or the Consulate and Mission to the UN in New York. Some others were children of people who were in the Dutch Merchant Marine but "jumped ship" and got American citizenship much later. I don't know why there has never been a serious study of Indonesian-Americans in academic journals, such as Indonesia (published by Cornell's SEAP) or elsewhere RahadyanS 05:41, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

[edit]

I'm editing the info where it says that Indonesian are the fourth largest. CanCanDuo 06:25, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesian Christians in the NJ/NY/CT Area

[edit]

There should probably be an article on the various Protestant denominations attended by Indonesians in the tristate area, including Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Pentecostal, etc. RahadyanS 13:24, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

suggestions

[edit]

There's a lot conceptual and/or stylistic error in this page

1. "Indonesian Americans are among the largest Southeast Asian ethnic group in the United States, after Filipino Americans, Vietnamese Americans, Laotian Americans, Cambodian Americans, and Thai Americans."

I don't think this syntax works. "Largest" does not work. You could do it as "Indonesian-Americans are the 5th largest ...etc.

2. "Socioeconomic" refers to social and economic status quo of Indoensian Americans. It just doesn't work if people just put trivial informations such as "There are also some Indonesian Americans serving in the U.S. military and who have served in the post-9/11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.Partahi Lumbantoruan, one of the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre, is Indonesian."--Vircabutar 05:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3. "There is an especially large concentration of Indonesian Americans in the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire (especially Loma Linda) regions of Southern California."

Citation?

4. "San Francisco holds an Indonesian festival every August 17 to celebrate Indonesia's independence and Indonesian culture." What's so significant about this fact. Los Angeles consulate & New York consulate also hold festivals on 17th of august.--Vircabutar 06:24, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

5. "There are also some Indonesian Americans serving in the U.S. military and who have served in the post-9/11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan." There are also Samoan, Iranian, Afgan, Tibetian, Malaysian, Chinese, Singaporean people who are currently serving in the military. Sorry, but this is just useless info.--Vircabutar 06:27, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problem

[edit]

The sections on indonesian experts has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with the actual subject of the article which is presumably about people of indonesian background living in the states - any comments on that would be appreciated - however I cannot see any point in having unrelated sections in article like this - and it needs more WP:RS for the comments found SatuSuro 03:51, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neologism?

[edit]

A term which has been used as far back as 1979 [1] and now has over a hundred GBooks hits [2] is pretty clearly not a neologism. Drive-by tagging of articles without doing any research is not helpful. cab (talk) 14:23, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

war immigration

[edit]

What does Indonesia not having been at war with the United States in the past, have anything to relate to indonesian immigration patterns to the United States? The statement appears to be a POV statement, and is not backed by a reliably sourced reference. Unless this is remedied, I will remove it. --RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 10:31, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References for regions

[edit]

"Regions with significant populations California, Miami, Northeast, West Coast" Is there any reference for this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.11.181.146 (talk) 21:55, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is none (aside from California which is discussed further down in the article). I suggest removing it if none can be found. cab (call) 03:05, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I found a some data from the Pew Research Center that supports this statement. I will add it in. --Highrise13 (talk) 14:07, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just modified one external link on Indonesian Americans. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, you may follow the instructions on the template below to fix any issues with the URLs.

Updating this page

[edit]

I will be updating this page with around 8 new sources amounting at 200-300 words. I plan to bolster the section about religion with several sources which study the Muslim experience of Indonesian Americans. I will be updating some of the facts and figures on this page using the Pew Research Center and Census data. I will also be adding a section on culture using an article from the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics. My goal is to add more substance to the pre-existing information on this page with the addition of more supporting sources and research. Please let me know if there are any concerns or suggestions with these goals.
