Proposed merge with inferior alveolar nerve

[edit]

My own personal feeling is that we could have an article entirely on anaesthesia. I have little doubt that the original author of this article did not realise that there was already a section of the inferior alveolar nerve on anaesthesia, and I've attempted to clean this article up and make it consistent.

IAN blocking is something that every dentist knows how to do. There must be whole chapters in textbooks written on this technique. We just need someone to write it up. - Richard Cavell (talk) 20:37, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article has only recently been created, and provides little more general interest information than is already provided in the Inferior alveolar nerve article. What extra information IS presented here constitutes something of a how-to guide, in contradiction with Wikipedia policies. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:39, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is already an article on anaesthesia. And there is already an article on the IAN, which includes its own section on anaesthesia for that nerve. There does NOT need to be a complete article on the anaesthesia of this particular nerve, even if such articles may exist in medical and dental texts, as Wikipedia is not intended to serve such special-purpose interests. I've had a little go at cleaning it up, and it looks like it could be it's own article, although in this state it's probably better to extend the other article (at least until either this section or the nerve article becomes bigger). Matt/TheFearow (Talk) 20:45, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've rated this article as middle importance. It's certainly higher than 'low'. As I said, most dentists will routinely use this nerve block and so it is of greater significance to Wikiproject Med. - Richard Cavell (talk) 22:04, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed move

[edit]

Instead of merging with the article on the nerve, why don't we move this article to "intraoral injection techinques" and expand it to include all injections performed in the oral cavity? DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 05:54, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
