Thanks. I will look into adding a series of pages on the subregions of the inland delta, of which Macina (variously also Massina, Masina, Mâssina and in the Fulfulde of the region, Maasina) is one. The new article on the Macina subregion (more or less the west of the inland delta), as well as this article, can mention how the term is variably applied. Kunaari (east & northeast of present day Mopti), Jenneeri (area around Djenné including the Pondo(ori) plain, Femaye (between Jenneeri and the Bani River up to around Sofara, and Nyansanaari (south of Jenneeri, more or less close to the Bani), are other ones I remember offhand. Amadou Hampate Ba, in his history of the Massina Empire, details those.--A12n 03:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

copyvio[edit]

The text added by user PimRijkee to the Fauna section is copied from the World Wildlife Fund page on the Inner Niger Delta. The WWF page claims Copyright on all text. Please see WP:COPYVIO. Thank you PimRijkee for your rapid response. Some of the Ecology section has also been cut-and-pasted from another article. The Wiki article contains the sentences:

Rising water levels of the two rivers arrive at the western to southern fringes of the delta as late as in early to mid-October and fade away at the beginning of January along the northern boundary of the delta. In consequence, large areas of the extremely flat delta are inundated during the period of the early dry season

This is identical to text in an article from a 2003 workshop posted on the European Space Agency website:

Working on the fauna thing, could use someone's help with the ecology section, may have some sentences left in it that were copy pasted and I missed with re-writing. Proposal to move article[edit]

I propose that this article is moved/renamed from the present "Niger Inland Delta" to the more usual "Inner Niger Delta". The sources that I've looked at all use "Inner Niger Delta". Google gives the following:

  • "Niger Inland Delta" - 3k <-- the present name of the article
  • "Niger Inner Delta" - 81k
  • "Inland Niger Delta" - 114k
  • "Inner Niger Delta" - 706k <-- the proposed name for the article

I'm well aware that using google can produce misleading results, but the above searches do suggest that "Inner Niger Delta" is by far the most common name. Aa77zz (talk) 17:53, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support: per common usage. I contributed a bit to this article, and the "Inner Niger Delta" (781K hits, see above) delivered not only the most results, but also the most relevant scientific results. Furthermore, the NY Times named it the "inner Niger Delta" in a October 8, 2004 article. Inland Delta delivered no results. BBC.co.uk and CNN seem to know neither.
