2500 maps?

[edit]

Just wanted to mention that a calculation shows there should be 2130 maps in the series, which doesn't come very close to 2500. 77.70.30.216 (talk) 17:08, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My calculations show 2130 maps as well. The body of the text shows 2160 maps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.191.228.58 (talk) 19:16, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not all 1:1M maps are IMW

[edit]

There were a lot of 1:1M scale maps produced by civil and military cartography agencies around the world which use sheet borders and indexing system of IMW. But majority of such maps aren't really IMW. The true IMW sheets have "CARTE INTERNATIONALE DU MONDE AU 1,000,000 / INTERNATIONAL MAP OF THE WORLD 1:1,000,000" title in the upper left corner (French/English in title and legend was one of the requirements for IMW). "Pseudo-IMW" maps often use different conventional signs and don't meet other requirements. Examples:

1) Soviet Union 1:1M series (in Russian)

2) Great Britain: https://maps.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/europe/

3) (!!!) United States AMS series 1301: https://maps.lib.utexas.edu/maps/imw/. Despite the page header says most of the maps from this link are AMS 1301, not IMW. Unfortunately, most examples in this Wikipedia page are also from the 1301 series.
