What makes it better over other designs?[edit]

The MaxxPro has saved the lives of more than 10 Soldiers so far this tour in southern Afghanistan. The MATV by OshKosh has better fording capability and more comfortable seats. However, the MaxxPro can take a larger hit and has more room. The MaxxPro Dash has a weak rear-end even though it has 4 wheels on that axle; axle problems with the Dash are a regular occurance. The MaxxPro's TC seat also has better legroom and the windshield placement is better for taller people vs. the MATV which requires you to duck your head down to see straight ahead causing strain on the neck. - Army Company Commander in Afghanistan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.140.189.4 (talk) 9:20, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Engine[edit]

The engine in the MaxxPro is not a MaxxForce engine. Those were renamed for the 07 emissions, the MaxxPro does not use these engines. I'm not sure but I believe it a DT 408

According to Navistar themselves it's a MaxxForce engine.[1] This may be partially a marketing exercise as I imagine that the commercial MaxxForce engines if they meet 07 emissions requirements will probably not run on poor quality mil-spec fuel. However, as MaxxForce is a Navistar brand name, if Navistar say it's a MaxxForce engine then it's a MaxxForce engine. Dino246 08:04, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On further checking, Navistar rebranded all their engines MaxxForce. The name doesn't refer to any particular engine or family of engines, it's an umbrella brand for all Navistar engines (other than those used by Ford which are branded PowerStroke). Ok that makes sense. The pre 07 engines are used in limited markets (military and export) and I was hoping to find horsepower/torque specs. It's just a matter of determining which one it is.

Their own website is surprisingly devoid of information on the MaxxPro. The similar sized 7000-MV with which it appears to share a bonnet (hood) and which was the basis of MaxxPro's predecessor, the APC, uses the DT 466 engine.[2]

Photograph[edit]

This article could do with a photograph. I've seen a few different ones knocking about the internet which all seem to be promotional photos from either International or Plasan Sasa. I'm not familiar enough with the Wiki policy on image submission - is it acceptable to upload a company's promotional photograph as "fair use"? Dino246 12:06, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes. use the tag "promotional". it is on International's IMG website banner, but not available as a standalone picture as far as I know. Haven't seen any Plasan Sasa pics, but who knows? DID has pics on their site. Dunno where they got em.

Finally found a photo of the Cat1 vehicle on Flickr[3] with a CC license so I uploaded it and linked it. Confirms what I maintained that the Cat1 has one less side window and the photo in the infobox is a Cat2 MaxxPro (despite the filename). Dino246 09:42, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:MRAP Cat 1 navistar.jpg[edit]

Image:MRAP Cat 1 navistar.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Engines corrected[edit]

The original MaxxPro used a DT530, and the later MaxxPro Plus and Dash use the MaxxForce 10 engines. In fact, all now come with the MaxxForce 10 engines. Also, do you want other Maxx Pro pictures? I have a few around in my personal computer.

This is the engine being installed in Maxx Pros. Or was, I should say. Sometimes called the DT570, for 570 cubic inches. Being a military vehicle, it is exempt from emission control, and has no particulate filter or EGR. And a different tune. Also, the MaxxPro is based on the 7400 series medium duty truck. Also used as a concrete mixer, dump truck, fire truck, or any other medium duty application. (40,000 lbs)

  • They have a separate product line ("MaxxForceD") for military applications, and I imagine that the MaxxPro uses those instead of the equivalents from the "civilian" product line.

This: http://www.maxxforce.com/Application/defense/Product/D93_I6 is the military equivalent of the MaxxForce 10. And it's the only one that goes up to 375 hp like the article says (the 10 only goes up to 350 hp it seems). And they have a picture of the MaxxPro on that page too... :)

Engines again, and the Dash[edit]

The Dash was fielded. The section can show past tense in the wring. And the engine is MaxxForce 10, without emission equipment. The longblocks are the same. It does have different programing without EGR (emission device). But they are the same engine. Operators[edit]

This entire section is dedicated to the procurement information on this vehicle. Given the ever changing situation at DoD, it is rather ridiculous to try and keep this current. Operation history in Ukraine[edit]

Today Telegram channels published a short clip of a towed M1224 with a ruined front and the statement that it hit an anti-tank mine in Ukraine, with the vehicle destroyed but the crew alive and well.
