Query from university staff[edit]

User:NBost has asked me via email about the "citation needed" template for the statement about NYTimes and IHT calling IUN the most international of Switzerland's university-level institutions. It means just what it says it means: we need a citation for that passage. I have done a GNews search for it (including archives) and can't find it. I will soon remove it if no-one produces a proper source for it. Mrs Bost (apparently the university's librarian) also indicates that "they" (presumably several people at the university) want to remove the passage about accreditation. However, the source provided does appear to establish that the university is not on the list of accredited/recognized institutions. Nomoskedasticity (talk) 11:05, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I also cannot find a source for the statement. The fact that it is attributed to both the NYTimes and the IHT leads me to think that it appeared in paid content included in an advertising supplement to both papers. In the past, I've seen similar statements with similar attribution submitted by other institutions, and they turned out to come from that type of source. --Orlady (talk) 14:31, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the moment it is mainly public universities which are listed in the CRUS listing (accreditation) however a new federal law (l’aide aux hautes écoles suisses) which will come in place in 2016 and the creation of a new Swiss accreditation agency will allow for private universities to be listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nbost (talk • contribs) 14:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I restored the statement about lack of CRUS recognition. It is true now, even if it will change in 2016. If there is a published source that discusses the CRUS accreditation situation, information could be added to the article. --Orlady (talk) 15:27, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In fact it is not possible for any Swiss private university to be listed on the CRUS’ list of accredited universities. However, the new law to be adopted in 2015 (Loi sur l’encouragement des hautes écoles et sur la coordination dans le domaine suisse des hautes écoles (LEHE)) will establish a new Swiss Council of Accreditation which will allow the accreditation of private universities. Moreover, the CRUS will be dissolved after 2015. The text reads as follows:

« Les hautes écoles suisses fonderont en novembre 2012 Swissuniversities. Cette association réunira sous un seul toit les hautes écoles de tous les types et servira de base à la création de la conférence des recteurs des hautes écoles suisses, qui naîtra avec l’entrée en vigueur de la nouvelle Loi sur l’encouragement des hautes écoles et sur la coordination dans le domaine suisse des hautes écoles (LEHE), prévue en 2015. La Conférence des recteurs des universités suisses (CRUS), la Conférence des recteurs des hautes écoles spécialisées suisses (KFH) et la Conférence suisse des recteurs des hautes écoles pédagogiques (COHEP) se dissoudront après l’entrée en vigueur de la nouvelle loi. »

Regarding the University[edit]

International University in Geneva is not listed in the three webpages as sources by the Ministry of Education in Switzerland accreditation;

The HEdA came into effect on 1 January 2015. With HEdA, the designations “university“, “university of applied sciences” or “university of teacher education” and derived designations such as “university college” or “UAS college” can only be used by public or private institutions that have been institutionally accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Council. This also applies to designations in languages other than Swiss national languages. Other designations such as “academy”, “school”, “institute”, etc. remain unreserved and do not require accreditation.

The Institution article is using misleading wording, self sourced links, outdated pages, dead links for some serious claims. (UNESCO list of Universities comes to my mind when i was browsing the page) In one instance they used the reputable University de Geneve as a cooperating listing for degree programs between institution. These offenses are serious.

Also the BAC referenced with the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) states the Institutional accreditation for BAC was valid from 2017 untill 31/10/2021. Which was proxy wise giving some kind of partnership recognition to IUG.

With the new changes at the start of 2023, i am not sure if this Institution will be able to hold the name it has,as of my writing. Move : name change from IUN to IIG[edit]
