Overview Issues

[edit]

There are some dubious factual claims in the Overview section and I think the use of scare-quotes around International in the International Communist Party is highly POV. The factual claims I take issue with are:

  1. The assertion that Bordiga was never a member of PCInt
  2. That the International Communist Party is an entirely different formation
  3. That Battaglia Comunista did not originate in the International Communist Party
  4. That Battaglia Comunista is "the only organization today that lays claim to the 'heritage of the Italian Communist Left' that actually originated within the Italian Communist Left."

The article cited is not a neutral source, and another article on leftcom.org[1] in fact explicitly contradicts these claims.--Masque (talk) 03:23, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Masque, it's a bit of a mess, but the International Communist Party page has been and continues to be even worse - see its talk page for details. --Samotny Wędrowiec (talk) 07:59, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A mess

[edit]

The relationship between the article on Bordiga, the article on the International Communist Party, and this article on the Internationalist Communist Party, is a mess. My understanding is that (contra to the Bordiga article) the party formed in 1943 was the Internationalist Communist Party (ie, the subject of this article); that Bordiga joined the Internationalist Communist Party either in the late 1940s or early 1950s, and that Bordiga's group then split from the Internationalist Communist Party to form the International Communist Party in 1953. If anyone has information that is different, I'd be pleased to know about it. Markaeologist (talk) 14:48, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly who split from whom depends on who you ask, I think. IIRC, the ICP claims BC split, and BC claims the ICP split.--Masque (talk) 15:38, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Markaeologist, you are absolutely correct... as far as I'm aware (political history can be quite confusing heh). The ICP is a newer formation that claims to uphold the traditions of the PCInt, but it is in fact the one that split and assumed a new name. --Samotny Wędrowiec (talk) 07:59, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think what is agreed by all the organisations is that the PCInt split in two, and then one of the groups changed its name from 'Internationalist Communist Party' to 'International Communist Party' while the other didn't. Perhaps the way forward is to find a way to express that without giving either side undue prominence. Markaeologist (talk) 22:48, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Very confusing - who actually founded this thing?

[edit]

Right now this page says:

>The origins of the party can be traced back to the Left Fraction which, between 1921-6, held a majority within the Communist Party of Italy. The International Communist Party itself was founded in 1943 by Onorato Damen and the group of revolutionaries around the journal Prometeo. It denounced the Second World War as imperialist and took an active part in the strike wave that shook northern Italy at the end of 1943. In 1952 Amadeo Bordiga split the party to form his own International Communist Party

(My bold)

Note that BOTH of those links to "International Communist Party" link to the SAME PAGE on the SAME PARTY. So, which is it then? Who DID found that party and in what year? Furthermore, when and by whom was THIS party founded? You know, the one the page is actually supposed to be about?

If I click the links to the respective official websites of the parties, as well as read how they are described here, the party described on this page SOUNDS more "Damenist", while the other one, the one linked to above, certainly sounds quite "Bordigist", but, either way, this page is just contradicting itself! I'm not sure why there were links to the same page, but I fixed that now. I think the history of these parties is quite confusing and complicated to begin with due to the splits and factions, which each claiming to be more right and true than the other. Seems to me that this gets even more jumbled up when the Bordiga fans come and make edits to push an agenda, trying to promote his newer party. AFAIK, the PCInt (which is the topic of this page) was found in 1943 by the Damen group; Bordiga joined in 1949 and the split in the party occurred in 1952, after which the Bordiga group formed the ICP (which the other article deals with). --Pitsarotta (talk) 15:09, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
