Restructuring[edit]

I altered the structure of the article a little bit to give the never-completed section if I-84 from Hartford to Providence its own section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Analogdemon (talkcontribs) 03:36, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Mass Pike shield.png[edit]

The image Image:Mass Pike shield.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

State segment spinoffs[edit]

I have long been contemplating cleaning up this article a bit by creating separate sections for three of the state segments (the MA section is really too short to need a separate article IMO). I'd like to begin, at least, with the New York segment with which I am most familiar. Does anyone have any objections? Daniel Case (talk) 06:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the state article can be detailed sufficiently, particularly its history, that might be a good idea. I would prefer not to split out only for the sake of splitting out, particularly when the main article is in bad shape. The Massachusetts portion should be combined with the Connecticut one as their histories are linked. --Polaron | Talk 17:09, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's a lot of detail that can be used. I actually think splitting out would help us clean this up a bit ... there are a number of random grafs of very NY-specific info and history that would be better in a state-specific article. Will be doing now. Daniel Case (talk) 18:15, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is a great source for Patterson I-84 info. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 18:22, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I-84 toll-free in New York[edit]

The extra details about I-190 don't make sense in this article, perhaps they could move to the NY State Thruway Authority article.

"In the early 1990s, maintenance responsibility for I-84 in New York was transferred to the New York State Thruway Authority and the monies for that purpose came from existing tolls on I-190 in downtown Buffalo, more than 300 miles (480 km) away. On Monday, October 30, 2006, the Thruway Authority voted to return maintenance costs to NYSDOT and the tolls in Buffalo were discontinued. The I-190 tolls were considered to be one of the principal causes of highway congestion in Buffalo.[2]"

The I-190 toll removal and the Thruway Authority maintenance transfers are already covered in detail in the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84 in New York articles, so it probably doesn't need to be mentioned here. – TMF 16:32, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking at a map of Hartford and it really looks like at one point the main route through was over the Founders Bridge since that makes a straight shot. It appears that at some point the route was realigned north, with the original route being replaced with Bushnell Park and Pearl Street. Did that happen when it was i-84 or did it it happen before that (when it was just US 6)? --Mblumber (talk) 01:32, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PA Reconstruction[edit]

I'm far too tired to write about this right now, but I remember going down I-84 in PA this summer and noticing that the entire westbound section was missing from Exit 53 to 34 (we were crossed over into the EB lanes). Apparently there's some reconstruction going on. Should this be mentioned in the article? --Ipeters61 (talk) 06:02, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to add it. Dough4872 06:08, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Distribution link[edit]

I don’t normally edit Wikipedia but I just noticed an error that I figured I would try to report. In the New York section, there’s a link to an article about distribution, but it seems to link to a definition that’s not applicable. I’m actually unsure if the correct definition even has an article. --Treyhazard2001 (talk) 05:53, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO, that entire sentence can be removed. It adds very little to the article. Regarding the specific words distribution triangle, when I read that, I thought of something much more compact, such as what is at the East Los Angeles Interchange. So if you want to keep the sentence, but reword it, I wouldn't even use the word distributor, because in my mind it's not. I'd just say something like the three freeways that serve this part of New York form a triangle in the region. Dave (talk) 18:49, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've revised the sentence in question. –Fredddie 20:51, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! Wikipedia is awesome :) Treyhazard2001 (talk) 04:39, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
