Bladder pain syndrome (aka interstitial cystitis)

All new research refers to it as BPS or BPS/IC. See for example PMID 20025029 ► RATEL ◄ 05:50, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Note also that the name was officially changed by European Society for the Study of Interstitial Cystitis (ESSIC), see PMID 17900797 ► RATEL ◄ 05:55, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
In PubMed, there are 38 papers total that include the phrase "bladder pain syndrome". There are 186 papers total that include the phase "painful bladder syndrome". By contrast, there are 269 papers including the phrase "interstitial cystitis" in the last three years alone. Please review Medmos#Naming_conventions. The face that there are multiple different new naming proposals endorsed by multiple organizations is precisely why we have that policy. Furthermore, MeSH (which undergoes extensive revision every single year) still uses "Cystitis, Interstitial" as the primary name for the condition. And even in contexts where concatenated names are used, "BPS/IC" does not represents the consensus. For example: "The nomenclature of IC/PBS may need to change, but change should not be undertaken now because there is insufficient evidence to support a change. Any change in nomenclature should be evidence-based. This group favors retaining IC in whatever name is considered in the future and positioning it first, as in IC/PBS." Of course, we should discuss the controversy in the article, but there is no current consensus in the literature for this condition that would justify overriding the World Health Organization's ICD. --Arcadian (talk) 13:03, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Also, note the interwiki links for this article: ar:التهاب المثانة الخلالي / متلازمة المثانة المؤلمة, de:Interstitielle Zystitis, es:Cistitis intersticial, fr:Cystite interstitielle, it:Cistite interstiziale, ja:間質性膀胱炎, fi:Interstitiaalinen virtsarakon tulehdus, and zh:間質性膀胱炎. --Arcadian (talk) 13:10, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

I accept that the old name is IC and that's still in common usage, but eventually all sources will refer to it as the more accurate "Bladder pain syndrome". I guess it's just a matter of time. ► RATEL ◄ 15:14, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

It sounds like Interstitial Cystitis is the name we want to use for now. That said, the article is already there, but this talk page is not. I propose that we move the talk page to Talk:Interstitial cystitis as well. Any issues with that? -- Transity(talkcontribs) 00:59, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Note to self (or whoever does the move) to also move the single archive page, and to change the Miszabot config at the top of the page as well. -- Transity(talkcontribs) 01:01, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Should be all done now. -- Transity(talkcontribs) 19:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
