Definitions[edit]

Another page I created in my user space here. A few things:

  • I couldn't find a good definition of an invertible link.
  • I couldn't find an understandable (for me) definition of a strongly invertible knot. (although I did find a reference that had a definition, but I couldn't understand it well enough to know what exactly it meant, so I just included it in that section.)
Fixed. Thank you C S. Jkasd 03:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • An animation is (hopefully) on the way, a depiction of a trefoil knot becoming inverted.

Don't hesitate to fix any problems you find. Thank you -- Jkasd 07:37, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

General method[edit]

The statement that no general method is known to tell whether a knot is invertible or not is somewhat ambiguous. The group structure (fundamental group and peripheral subgroups/generators) determine a knot up to ambient isotopy, and the action of reversal on this structure is well-defined. On the other hand this problem in general has no known algorithmic solution. So I guess I see what is meant here, but it is still a bit strange. I have therefore added a remark about it.
