I mean, seriously, it goes from one sentence about the beginnings of the clubs in the 1800s to 'online communities.' - IstvanWolf 00:31, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would tend to agree, and I don't agree with the weak references. The information I have is that the 'concept' of investment clubs might be older, investment clubs really sprung up around the 1890's. To spread the risk of the cattle business. This is very important statement. Also, the timing is very important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by U912boiler (talkcontribs) 19:07, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Examples needed

[edit]

I have added a couple of citations, and I am working on adding information regarding the legal structure of these clubs. If anyone has some good concrete examples of how to form an LLC, or S-Corp etc and the advantages/disadvantages of each I would love to have it added. --Q. Whom ever reads these, please read this.... trying to drive this article. I am not sure who reads these pages or how often, but I think this document really needs the input from someone who can provide some very concrete examples of how to start structure the Articles of Organization or Articles of Incorporation. Also, if someone could add some type of discussion around the implications of incorporating in the US with a discussion of which state is the best, as well as possible offshore incorporation. Finally, I would really like to see some discussion about International Law and International Investment clubs. --Q. Boiler (talk) 20:31, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Answering user Q. Boiler - In terms of a concrete example of how to start an investment club including a link to a sample General Partnership Agreement, the National Association of Investors (NAIC), formerly known as the National Association of Investment Clubs (NAIC) has this on their website at www.betterinvesting.org/investment-clubs/how-to-start/form/legal-structure . I am not adding this to the page as, in full disclosure, I am affiliated with NAIC and don't want anyone to perceive my edit as promotional. I do not believe including this sample Agreement and structure advice would be in any way promotional of NAIC. In terms of the next item about incorporating in states in the US, there is information on state taxes at www.iclub.com/taxes/ - note this page promotes a product at the top of the page, but has information on different states' requirements at the bottom of the page. -ADantley (talk) 02:22, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

Self-directed investment clubs is a two-sentence article that has been unsourced since it's creation 15 years ago, and has been tagged as unsourced for 11 years, with no discussion. It could easily be merged into this article. Sundayclose (talk) 19:46, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Conduct of Business

[edit]

Under typical meeting agenda in the Conduct of Business section, it says citation needed. NAIC has a sample agenda at www.betterinvesting.org/investment-clubs/how-to-start/form/meeting ; once again, I don't believe this is promotional of NAIC, but as I am affiliated with NAIC, I am refraining from making the edit to the page. -ADantley (talk) 02:29, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
