Dribbles information controversy

[edit]

Apparently there are users who don't like the fact that there are information about dribbles on Doku's page and constantly attempt to delete that information referring to it as "irrelevant". First of all, dribbles are a well known statistical category in football and they are measured regularly as part of advanced analytics where ball progression and carrying are seen as major factors in teams and players performance. This is confirmed by the fact that media report it constantly, and in fact regularly when it comes to Doku.

This brings me to my key point. Doku's game is defined by dribbles, his profile is of a player who is dribbling, he is famous and widely recognized for this ability. To not have his Wikipedia page reflect this is absurd. What people care most about when it comes to Doku and pay most attention to in his case, is his dribbling. It would make even less sense to have information about his dribbling achievements when he was at Rennes and his style description (as the part of the page which is older) but not about his Manchester City or Belgium career (which are those that get deleted). I agree that there shouldn't be random dribbling reports, but when he sets a record or has a notable achievement in the dribbling category, it should be on the page. This is Wikipedia, not Opta. We don't need a running analysis of how many dribbles a player achieved in games or whether he broke the "record" of most dribbles by the eighth round of a competition. If it's his style of play, it can go in the style of play section that he is a renowned dribbler, we don't need to know whether he got eight dribbles in a Ligue 1 game in 2022 against Bordeaux or whatever. If you don't need to know something, then don't read it. Maybe then there shouldn't be info or assists either, or goals, or games even? After all this is Wikipedia, not Livescore, right? By the way, who is "we"? In whose name are you talking? It seems to me its only *you* who has an issue with this. Until you find people who agree with you (and nobody had any issues before you started this obsession), these statistics stay relevant because 1. they are reported all over the media and 2. because people interested in Doku are interested in these statistics due t the player's profile. The dribble statistics compiled here were relayed by many outlets when Doku made the transfer to City to introduce the player. It makes no sense to describe Doku as a dribbler in the style of play section, that this is his most important attribute, and then avoid to mention dribbling milestones in the career section when media reports them constantly. I can accept that only the biggest dribbling feats should be there, but not that nothing in this category shouldn't be mentioned. Bosilkof (talk) 22:23, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, there shouldn't be info on assists and there shouldn't be match-by-match info of goals or games, only where it is important. That's why this information usually isn't included! Nonsense about dribbles shouldn't be included either! What next, do you want XG mentions all over the show? All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 13:51, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have never seen someone so passionate about having less information in an encyclopedic page. Its inexplicable. If XG is something a player is famous for, yes I would like reports about it throughout the page, because it fits the context. Thousands of football fans retweet and repost the media's reports about Doku's dribbles. Fans of Doku in particular are interested mostly in his dribbling and this is where they can get comprehensive information about it. The fact that information isn't usually included, doesn't make it a rule. If everyone could get as much possible detail about every player, I would be happy but Im just not that interested in other players, so I leave that to those who are. Get a third opinion and stop interfering until then. Bosilkof (talk) 23:25, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thousands of people retweeting things does not equate to something being encyclopaedic. The fact that information isn't usually included, does in fact make it a rule. We don't apply rules to select few pages, it applies to all. Someone dribbling a ball past another player simply isn't noteworthy, nobody but you thinks this to be the case. Stop reverting without consensus to include this information. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 00:26, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
