Article misnamed

[edit]
  1. The current name of this article is incorrect German usage; it's Jüdischer Kulturbund.
  2. However, I believe the the correct name is Kulturbund Deutscher Juden – see de:Kulturbund Deutscher Juden.

I suggest this article be moved to Kulturbund Deutscher Juden. Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:54, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Information to "1933-1937" Subheader

[edit]

I am planning to add information under the "History" section of the article in the "1933-1937" subheader regarding the various obstacles that Singer faced while trying to establish the Kulturbund as well as clarifying the original proposal for the Kulturbund. I plan to add a hyperlink to Kurt Singer's Wikipedia page so that readers can be directed to read more about him. I am utilizing information from Rebecca Rovit's book The Jewish Kulturbund Theatre Company in Nazi Berlin. This book was published in 2012 by the University of Iowa Press. Rovit is an assistant professor at the University of Kansas and is the author of numerous articles on theatre and performance in several scholarly journals. From this source, I intend to add content regarding Singer's original proposal for the Kulturbund which he sent to the Ministry of Propaganda in June of 1933. This added content will detail Singer's plan for the number of members in the theatre troupe, opera ensemble, choir, and orchestra, the repertoire plan, costs, organizational structure, advertising, and technical and personnel issues. This information will more clearly define the original plan for the Kulturbund under Singer's leadership.

I plan to remove the line in the article that states "The Nazis permitted this organization to hide its oppression of Jews." This statement may mislead readers to believe that the Nazis permitted the Kulturbund to exist without much debate. I will add information about the pushback that Singer received from the Reich Cultural Chamber and the Prussian Minister of Culture at the time, Hans Hinkel. I will provide information on Singer's persistent negotiations with Hinkel leading up to Hinkel's agreement for the Kulturbund to exist and the specific terms of that agreement. I will also add content regarding Singer's difficulty in selecting repertoire for the Kulturbund based on the debate among Berlin's Jewish community about whether or not the content of the Kulturbund should be highly representative of Jewish nationalist themes. Altogether I will add about 5-6 sentences to the article. If anyone wants to comment on these changes, please let me know on this Talk page or on my Talk page.
