I seriously doubt that this is one of the worst translations ever. There's lots of amateur translations published by people who barely know the language (or sometimes don't know the language at all) out there. --Prosfilaes 01:56, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

This article J. J. Earle obviously is about John Earle (professor) or rather one single aspect of him, nameley the quality of his Beowulf translation: This might become a section in the target article or could be grossly condensed: I cannot access the objectivity and encyclopedic relevance of the statement Worst. Translation. Ever.

So far I have not been able to establish "J. J." or "John J." als forms of name for the person. Library catalogues and the title page of the 1892 Clarendon Press edition of The Deeds of Beowulf know him plainly as "John Earle". -- Gymel (talk) 09:46, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
