[edit]Someone changed the title of this article to John Randolph Tucker (Virginia politician) from John Randolph Tucker (1823-1897). They failed to take into account the fact that there were several generations of John Randolph Tuckers in 19th and 20th Century Virginia, all with the same name. The birth dates were for the purposes of disambiguation.
I am "discussing" this, rather than reverting it, because the instructions to Help:revert say to do this, rather than just revert. If no one has anything to say in support of the Virginia politician change here in a few days, I will revert the name back to the date identifier. JohnnE 19:57, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Name should be changed as there are at least two John Randolph Tuckers that were Virginia politicians. I'm changing the page name. 17:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Portraits
[edit]I recently swapped the infobox portrait for a different one with more credible, reliable sourcing (a good number of photographs at the Library of Congress are misidentified and/or slightly misdated). I think I have some small amount of face blindness (especially for 100+ year old B&W photos!), so I'm not sure if all the portraits in Commons:Category:John Randolph Tucker (politician) are of the same person (and it doesn't help much that there seems to be dozens of law-practicing John Randolph Tuckers from Virginia), but there are at least several images published around the time of Tucker's death to help calibrate. Here are some various images that may very well all be the same person. I leave these here for future evaluation. --Animalparty! (talk) 23:56, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

(Current infobox image). High credibility ID: published in an 1897 obituary of John Randolph Tucker, and dated to "about 55 years of age" in a 1907 biographical compilation edited by William Draper Lewis.
-
Illustration of a bust of Tucker, cast by Edward V. Valentine in 1898 according to the source. Looks very much like the previous. (moustache, glasses, etc.)
-
(previous infobox image). Titled by LOC as "Hon. John Randolph Tucker of VA" based on "unverified information on negative sleeve." Perhaps a younger photo than the previous?
-
Titled by the LOC as "Tucker, Hon. J.R.". based on "unverified name of sitter or person who ordered the photograph". This photo looks somewhat intermediate between Mr. Beard and Mr. Glasses to the left
