What evidence is there that he was called "Warren Keifer" rather than "Joseph Keifer"? john k (talk) 19:34, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the frontispiece of his autobiographical book Slavery and Four Years of War his signature appears under his portrait and it is signed as "J. Warren Keifer". See: [1]

Also, in the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies in the war of the rebellion the definitive 130 volume work on the Civil War, prepared by the War Department during and after the Civil War pursuant to an Act of Congress, his reports also appear as J. Warren Keifer. See: [2]

Corruption[edit]

After his one term as Speaker, he was never anywhere near the Republican leadership again. This was purportedly due to his giving of paid Congressional staff offices to family members. This is covered elsewhere in Wikipedia and needs to be mentioned (with appropriate citations) here in this article. 2600:1004:B162:2B4:F432:578E:5712:88BC (talk) 00:28, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
