Dixons[edit]

I am still trying to find as much info as I can about Dixons. Unfortunately J F Dixon is a popular name and I can't find any reference to his full name nor if he was the same person 60 years later who closed the store (John F Dixon). Also the store started redevelopment in the 1920s, as this view from Britain from Above [1] website in 1928 shows that the London road frontage had started to be rebuilt compared to the picture in 1920 [2]. Can't also find any reference to the late 60s early 70s rebuild which included linking the 2 sides of the shop with the bridge over Queens road, the refronting of Queens road with the brick curtain wall (to hide the earlier building) and the refronting of the London road/high street facade. This was done before the store closed, as there was a picture of this on either Southend Timeline or the Sea of Change website, which were merged in 2021 after the death of Nick Skinner. I have emailed the site administrators asking if they could upload it to the Dixons page on the website, and amend the page to J F Dixon (as per evidence collated for this page), so the picture could be externally linked. There is also snippets that J F Dixon may have represented the Drapers Chamber of Trade and the duo decimal society of great Britain, but nothing more than z snippet [3]. In addition I can find no information regarding Payless DIYs stint in Queens Road, nor Superdrugs and the fire that destroyedthe original building. I also cant find the sale advert for the freehold of the property in 2019, as confirmed here [4], as the advert said the size of 40000sq feet for the whole site.
