Lightswitch quote[edit]

Appears on the Andrew Ettinghausen page a little differently. Which is accurate?--Jeff79 22:09, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Referee criticism[edit]

I have a feeling Gibson was factor in introducing fines for public critcism of referees, due to his constant carping - particularly during the Parramatta years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.212.127 (talk) 07:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've written on this trait at length in the coaching sections but can't confirm that it resulted in the fines being introduced. When did this happen ? -Sticks66 12:33, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Easts[edit]

Whiticker has Gibson playing 123 games for Eastern Suburbs. Is the 132 in the infobox correct? Florrieleave a note 14:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I got it from the Daily Telegraph tribute. In my experience Whiticker only shows 1st grade games-Sticks66 12:44, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't first grade what you want for the infobox? Addit: The leaguehq article says 162 first-grade games in total (which leaves 132 for Easts if the other teams are correct). So one of them is wrong. Florrieleave a note 08:56, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So I think you are ever-so-politely saying that I've made a transposition error and you may well be right. -Sticks66 12:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I think the paper made a transposition error! :) Although Whiticker isn't infallible. I'm still looking for another reference. Florrieleave a note 09:11, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cronulla[edit]

"Gibson's last club coaching role was with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks from 1985 to 1987. He had few big-name players to work with but did an admirable job in developing a pool of local junior talent and the club eventually made the semi-finals in the two immediate years following his departure"

Gee that's very generous. Few big name players? You mean apart from Andrew Ettingshausen, Mark McGaw, Gavin Miller (All NSW + Australian Kangaroos), Jonathon Docking, Alan Wilson, Jim Leis, Paul Merlo (all NSW reps) Dane and Kurt Sorensen (NZ test players), Mike Gregory & Brian Noble (GB test players), Dan Stains (Qld), Graham Quinn (Qld + Australian rep) Michael Speechley (174 1st grade games) etc????? That's 6 internationals and 5 state reps...

There was nothing overly wrong with the team, Gibson underperformed as coach. It happens. Doesn't make him a bad coach but there's no need to soft sell his record at the Sharks which was pretty poor. Tigerman2005 (talk) 03:37, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
