The "cleanup" tag is for articles that are a mess of style and formatting. For that purpose you use {{sections}}.

And given the current brevity of this article I don't see the need for them. Yet. When I get around to expanding it, then I will break it up. But for articles about as short as in intro we generally don't need them. Daniel Case 03:30, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about date of house construction[edit]

Just returned from a holiday event at the house and had a lively discussion with our village historian (a longtime friend) about how old it is.

She says not to trust any source (even the NRHP nom) that dates it to the 1730s as the earliest we can say it existed in its present form is 1799. One of the state's experts says the architecture is more Federal; the house also lacks a basement kitchen that we might expect to have had if it was built in the 1730s. Also, the earliest reliable deed shows that the first recorded owner (not Walden), bought the property in 1793. Why, she asked, would you have built a house on property you didn't own yet?

One theory is that it was built as an attachment to an older frame house (there's some evidence of this) which was itself later demolished.
