Cause for delays in Gen Van Ovost's nomination[edit]

There has been back and forth discussion about how to refer to claims that Van Ovost's nomination was delayed over concerns that the Trump administration would have refused to approve her nomination. According to the cited article, which is from the WP:RS The New York Times, then-Defense Secretary Esper delayed her nomination to avoid it being denied; it was unambiguously stated in his quote: "They were chosen because they were the best officers for the jobs, and I didn’t want their promotions derailed because someone in the Trump White House saw that I recommended them or thought D.O.D. was playing politics..." Whether or not the Trump administration would have denied the nomination is irrelevant to how it should be presented; Esper was concerned over Van Ovost's nomination and did not put it forward while Trump was president. Adding terms like "allegedly" devalue the claim made by the reliable sources and goes against MOS:ALLEGED. If there is another reliable source that casts doubt on this NY Times quotes, it should be added for the sake of WP:NPOV, but one is not currently included.
