In a very different building, didnt JHS start in ~1888?[edit]

See http://www.rmslusitania.info/people/saloon/clinton-bernard/. This guy was born in 1888 and went to JHS. So, figuring he went there from about 1901 through 1904, would show that a so-named school existed at the time. When I went to school there in the mid-1980's I remember seeing a series of photos going back long before 1925 to the late 1880's where JHS convened in a far smaller structure some distance away from the Gothic Ave. site. Anyone know of any documentation for this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jyg (talkcontribs) 05:59, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Found an NYT article (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/24/nyregion/24jamaica.html?_r=0) that states the so-named school opened in 1896. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/24/nyregion/24jamaica.html?_r=0 Jyg (talk) 06:14, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A web page stating that it opened in 1896 and was situated at Hillside Ave. off of 162nd St.... which seems to be where Queens Satellite School resides. Same page also states "Charles Albert Vosburgh (1876-1967): started his teaching career in 1896 at Jamaica High School, then located at Hillside Avenue, off 162nd Street. The institution in 1896 was a kindergarten through twelfth grade school, with four teachers and eighty students. Vosburgh became principal of Jamaica High School in 1919 and remained there until retirement in 1946. Incompatible sentences[edit]

By 1998, the school had an on-time graduation rate of over 75 percent.[8] Graduation rates as well as enrollment continued to decline into the 2000s.

"over 75 percent" and "continued to decline" don't go together. 109.145.27.215 (talk) 17:42, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - I read the source and summarized it appropriately. I think it all goes together now! Moishe Rosenbaum (talk) 20:36, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
