[edit]Sometimes you can find that he was a F.S.A.L.. Has anyone an idea what the abbreviation F.S.A.L.stands for? Or is this the same as Fellows of the Society of Antiquaries of London?--87.176.120.54 (talk) 18:24, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
- I feel James Murray is the same person, as in Cultures and institutions of natural history: essays in the history and philosophy of science is written on page 70. Of the two, Karachi is the more important largely because of James Murray's 13-year tenure as curator of the museum. Murray (1865-1914) explored the province of Sind (now part of Pakistan). It might help to get this literature:
- 'James Murray, FRSE, 1865-1914: A Belated Biography'. Year Book of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: 15-20
- Waterston, AR 1976. 'James Murray, 1865-1914: Pioneer Freshwater Biologist, Polar Scientist and Taxonomist'. Year Book of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: 21-25
to find out.--87.176.104.30 (talk) 12:55, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- Intriguing. We had a problem before that we discussed at User_talk:Smallweed/archive2#James_Augustus_Murray - caused by a faulty index on the NHM library catalogues at that time. Shyamal (talk) 13:06, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- Anyway his full name seems to be James Alexander Murray. See Journal of Anthropological Society of Bombay, Vol 1, 1886, page 288 and page 449--87.176.112.225 (talk) 11:13, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
