Intellectual honesty[edit]

Finer point[edit]

I was watching ABC news live when Frank Reynolds prematurely announced Mr. Brady's death; but I recall his words being "let's get this thing straight." That said, I have no evidence of that, save that when SCTV lampooned the event by having Eugene Levy (as newscaster Earl Camembert) mistakenly announce the death of Lola Heatherton, after his retraction he says "let's get this thing straight!" and that I have seen on DVD. I just finished watching the piece with Frank Reynolds on Youtube. After he acknowledges the false reports of Brady's death, he says, "Let’s get it nailed down, somebody... Let’s (cough) find out." Was Mr. Brady definitely a Republican (can the article be more definitive?)[edit]

I looked up the article to reference Mr. Brady's religious and political credentials, and I was surprised that they are not here. On James Brady's recovery?[edit]

I wish this statement from Brady's neurosurgeon in the Nature story were accurate.

However, Kobrine said that 30 years later, Brady could walk and had recovered almost all speech and cognitive function.

But, sadly, I think his present condition is not as positive. Dated a few months later than the Nature story is a video from CBS News on You Tube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBMqiBcFhKQ) which states the opposite - that he never regained the ability to walk. It also mentions that he's also now blind.

Maybe the neurosurgeon didn't mean to suggest that Brady has been virtually cured or that he's walking well. But, that seems to be what the Nature story (and in turn, this article) suggests.

Lead[edit]

The lead states: "On August 8, 2014, Brady's death was ruled a homicide caused by the gunshot wound he received in 1981, approximately 33 years after the fact." This sentence should be reworded. It means that the homicide decision/classification came 33 years after the actual gunshot wound. However, the way it is presently worded, it makes it sound as if the year 1981 (i.e., the assassination attempt and the gunshot wound) is 33 years "after the fact". Joseph A. Category: American shooting survivors[edit]

I've restored Category:American shooting survivors removed by 70.128.118.217 (talk) on 02:27, 12 August 2014 with the comment, "removed category "American shooting survivors"; the medical examiner ruled that he died from the shooting. He therefore, cannot be considered a survivor." It is far from clear to me that the ME's ruling excludes him from this category, particularly as he is most notable for his survival and subsequent advocacy. Portrayal in Media: The Americans[edit]

This entry seems to contain mostly non pertinent information relating to James Brady. Perhaps the mention of his shooting should be included as a minor footnote. However, the modern minivan reference along with what the characters in the show were doing at the time should not be included. Can this just be trimmed down to something like: “his shooting and erroneous death reports were referenced in a radio broadcast during an episode of the Americans”? It could simply include a hyperlink to the Americans TV series (either the show in general or to that specific episode). Then eliminate the remaining useless detail.
