Ferrari 330 P3/4 0846 does not exist. The Glickenhaus' P3/4 is a replica and not the real Ferrari 0846 as he claims.

[edit]

It was stated here that the subject of the article owns Ferrari P3/4 0846. This car no longer exists. It was written off and completely dismantled by Ferrari on 20th July, 1967 and never used again which I have in writing from them. James Glickenhaus bought in England from the racing driver David Piper a non genuine Ferrari P4 replica in the year 2000. It was described by Mr Piper as a replica and that is what Mr Glickenhaus agreed to buy and bought. Since then Mr Glickenhaus has embarked on a campaign stating on internet car forums/websites, auto magazines, youtube videos and a dedicated on line 130+ page document that this car is the genuine long lost real Ferrari 330 P3/4 #0846 which was written off by Ferrari and discarded to the scrapyard after burning at Le Mans in 1967. He has gone to great lengths to make it look like the genuine car. Unfortunately there are many details on the car which prove it is not Ferrari 330 P3/4 #0846.

In March, 2016 Mr Glickenhaus published to the world Chief Director and Head of the Ferrari Racing Department that designed the P3 and P4 cars Ing. Mauro Forghieri's letter of chassis authentication dated 14th March, 2016 without making public the fuller earlier letter by Ing. Forghieri dated the 23rd February, 2016 which states the chassis has modifications not conforming to Ferrari practice, that the chassis number 0846 no longer exists as it has been cancelled by Ferrari, and that this number cannot legally be used.

Ing. Forghieri wrote these letters after a "tourist's glance" at the car at Amelia Island in 2014, where he thought he recognised the positioning of the oil cooler as that of the car he took to Daytona in 1966 for testing, and after looking over some very brief documentation containing incorrect information that was made available to him. He stated that he had NOT subjected the car to a technical analysis. He had NOT thoroughly examined the chassis as Mr Glickenhaus stated.

Since writing the letters and looking over Mr Glickenhaus's own pictures of the chassis, which he had not seen before writing the letters to Mr Glickenhaus, Ing. Forghieri has concluded the car is NOT the one he took to Daytona for testing in 1966 and therefore the car is not 0846.

In an email to me dated 10th May, 2016, which Mr Glickenhaus is aware of, Ing. Forghieri has expressed his later findings, after actually having seen pictures of the details of the chassis, which only then enabled him to make a correct determination that he was not able to make before and stated the car of Mr Glickenhaus is a fake P4, "...falsa P4 di Glickenhaus.."

Below is the translated (by Gabriele Longoni) from Italian content of the email sent to me on 10th May, 2016 by Ing. Mauro Forghieri that effectively supersedes his letters of chassis authentication to Mr Glickenhaus of 14th March, 2016 and the earlier fuller letter of 23rd February, 2016.

“Dearest Mr.Robertson

I believe you are the biggest P4 expert living nowadays.

I really liked the set of pictures you sent, especially the one about 412 s/n0854 bare chassis and during restoration.

Please note, however, that both Glickenhaus’ car and the real P4 #0858 don’t have the tube you pointed with red arrows on picture n°4 (412P s/n0854) while they have the tube you point with arrows on picture n°3 (dp3 arrows).

This different configuration is because of the differences between a 412 and a 330 engine.

The rear portion of Glickenhaus’ fake P4 is completely new and these details couldn’t have been missed by coachbuilders that built real P4s.

I believe that the biggest differences from a real one are in the front section.

You, with those engine pictures, are proving that Glickenhaus’ car is not a real P4; and Ferrari’s belief too is proving it, because they refuse the number that Glickenhaus loves most; my personal negative belief then and what others said should make anyone believe that this car is original.

I could not travel to Sicily due to health and work issues, but I will go to Montecarlo.

I tried to make things more clear to avoid further problems to you.

Thanks for everything, respectfully and with the best regards.

Mauro Forghieri”

Despite the above later and very different determination by Ing. Forghieri Mr Glickenhaus wrongly continues to publish the superseded letter of 14th March, 2016 in the introduction and conclusion in his "0846" on line document and also distribute it for publication in magazines such as Top Gear.

Very significantly, in addition to the above, I have posted many pictures of the real Ferrari P3/P4 0846 from Daytona 1967 and Le Mans 1967 along with my explanations showing the differences between the real car and the Glickenhaus/Piper replica on the website ferrarichat. You will see in amongst the debate my posts that prove the chassis is not the real Ferrari #0846, and that the engine is a 3 litre 312 F1 engine, not a 4 litre 330 P4 engine as Mr Glickenhaus claims. Sorry but we're not particularly interested in your explanations of the differences nor of any else's (including the subject) unless they are covered in reliable secondary sources. Nil Einne (talk) 04:17, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

One of the sources above is Ing. Mauro Forghieri, the actual Designer at Ferrari of the car. You can contact him to verify what he said above on the 10th May, 2016 is actually true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miurasvjota (talkcontribs) 03:04, 18 June 2020 (UTC) @Nil Einne And who are you to say we are not interested in my explanations??? The above is the actual content of the email from Ing. Mauro Forghieri from Ferrari who designed the car who has called the car that Glickenhaus states is the real Ferrai P3/P4 0846 a fake. Ridiculous.[reply]
