POV problems[edit]

this article reads like a promotional biography of hoffa. it also sounds like it is copied from somewhere else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.172.108.201 (talkcontribs)

I didn't find an original with a quick Google search, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It does sound something like a friendly blurb moreso than an encyclopedia article, and doesn't really conform to our standard chronological biography format. Well - whatever you do - don't delete any of it...or there will be NOTHING on James P. Hoffa.

As a little exercise, go to the Wiki page of Ron Carey (a man who led the Teamsters for six years back in the 1990s)...now compare the length of Carey's article with that of James P. Hoffa (a man who was born to a world-famous figure, and who has led the Teamsters for ten years now). Anybody see a problem? 32.176.179.145 (talk) 10:55, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So fix it. :) Madcoverboy (talk) 00:15, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is still MAJOR work to be done. Right now this article looks like it's peddling membership in the Teamsters. Bill Heller (talk) 12:34, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Entire portions of this "entry" read like labor union boosterism. The last portion of the "Organizing Successes" section is particularly bad. Getting people "ready" for the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act(a bill that has zero chance of passing, by the way)? Gushing testimonials from die-hard unionists? Yeah, those don't belong in an encyclopedia entry.04:56, 14 January 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.134.145.218 (talk)

Cleanup[edit]

I've cleaned up some of the improperly formatted images in the article as well as making subsections linked to the table of contents. However, the content of the article needs to be drastically curtailed or reframed since it currently reads as a list of Teamster achievements since 1996 rather than an encyclopedic article describing the man's background, education, and involvement in these achievements. Madcoverboy (talk) 00:15, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

The infobox says May 9; the lead and Personal life section state May 19. Jim Michael (talk) 06:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HOFFA JR,s POLITICAL AFFILIATION IN THE EARLY YEARS.[edit]

WAS HOFFA A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, THATS MY ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.77.201.153 (talk) 23:59, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly not a Republican.68.111.94.125 (talk) 00:33, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Let's take these son-of-a-bitches out and give America back to America where we belong[edit]

any objection to adding his opinion of the tea party? http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/09/video-of-the-day-hoffas-son-of-a-bitches-remark-sparks-outrage/244600/ Darkstar1st (talk) 17:50, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a section about the Labor Day speech. Hopefully people think it's good enough. Demoman925 (talk) 00:08, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What Fox News did to the Hoffa speech is not opinion, but an undisputed fact that they changed the context of the quote with their editing which made is sound like a call for violence instead of a call to vote as proven by this journalistic citation by a Fox Network affilate at [1]. Steelbeard1 (talk) 17:45, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is still an opinion. WP does not take an ownership position of conceptual issues. Arzel (talk) 18:44, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A new pic would be useful[edit]

as the existing one is apparently 15 years old. danno_uk 03:25, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
