Linear Algebra?

SAT score of 779

The article claims that James Woods had a math SAT score of 779. Is this possible? I thought the scores were always multiples of 10, and can find no other cases where this was not the case.

Someone definitely botched that one up. SAT scores are only based on intervals of 10, so there's no way he got a 779. I think it was a mistype because to 9 is close to the 0 on the keyboard. Can anyone verify if his score was a 770, or find out if it was something else? I tried looking, but I couldn't find anything about his SAT scores.

I'm wondering why we need to know his SAT scores, especially as he did not complete a degree and is not in a professional field where it is required. Broader context would be helpful. SeattleSue 08:04, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Short Factor

It did say that his SAT scores were based off of an older form of measurement/scale, but I don't know how that one works... or was that only regarding his English/Reading scores?

I took the SATs in 1963 and my scores were definitely 697 and 735 (English and Math), so clearly at that time they were not multiples of 10. The year before, I took the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) and Those scores were only two digits (like 69 and 74). Maybe that is where the multiple of ten idea comes from or maybe it changed some time after 1965 around when Woods would have taken them.

My sister took the SAT in 1970 and got a 799 in the English portion and a 700+ in the math. So it was still like that in 1970.Mylittlezach (talk) 20:59, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
