Page name[edit]

How do you remove the Rhys from Jamie Clarke's page. It is stupid at this stage that is not his name. Can we rename the page Jamie Clarke. I don't know how to do this though. 178.167.133.131 (talk) 13:25, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated the link above, the discussion was archived. The short answer is: No. There are plenty of other people called Jamie Clarke. The only serious possibility is Jamie Clarke (snooker player) which currently redirects here. I'm confused why you say "that is not his name". See eg http://www.ebsa.tv/prague-gone-wild/ and http://www.ebsa.tv/jamie-clarke-knocks-century-door-twice/ which clearly say "Jamie Rhys Clarke". Is this another person? I see it must be the same person since the event appears in his article: "Michael Wild (England) 34 years, is the 2015 European Snooker Champion, a title he just won this Saturday beating Jamie Rhys Clarke (Wales) 7-4 in the Grand Final, at Prague’s Top Hotel, in a a clash that lasted more than four hours until the new European King and successor of 2014 winner, Mitchell Mann (England) was crowned." Nigej whatever it says on an amateur site I would not pay much attention too. Clarke has clearly stated on many occasions he does not know why they use the name rhys it was used in error at times. Surely the man himself knows his own name. World Snooker, the BBC and Eurosport all call him by his right name Jamie Clarke. Why would countless media outlets use the "Jamie Rhys Clarke" name when Rhys was never part of his name. What would make sense is that he used to prefer the "Jamie Rhys Clarke" version but now prefers plain "Jamie Clarke", but you seem to be claiming that he never had the Rhys version of the name. It simply doesn't make any sense. Perhaps you could provide links to some of the countless list of occasions when he's said he doesn't know why the Rhys was used. The earliest I can find: From the South Wales Evening Post 28 April 2010 "A young snooker player from Fforestfach has narrowly missed out in a competition to find the most promising players of the future. Jamie Rhys Clarke made the final eight of a nationwide Future Stars competition, held at the Crucible in Sheffield last week. The 15-year-old made the national final, which was entered by more than 1,000 under-16s nationwide, by winning the regional event held at Rileys Cardiff earlier this month." Nigej - at the risk of reopening an old wound, I think Jamie Clarke (snooker player) is probably a better target at this point. We don't generally disambig by middle name, but he obviously went by this name for a bit. I think he's pretty well established as being simple "Jamie Clarke" at this stage.

I think you're right. I think I only objected before because of some spurious arguments by you-know-who. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Snooker/Archive 8#Can someone remove the Rhys from Jamie Clarke's name please. if you're not aware of it. Betty Logan argued there that the Rhys was a sort of natural disambiguation, but I think that argument's much weaker now. Nigej (talk) 05:41, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was also a part of the bludgeoning. I think it's pretty clear he won't go by that name, and the plethora of sourcing for various competitions (especially the worlds last year) means it's common name.
