Wrong history

[edit]

I cut from the reference to Sam & Henry in 1926 "from Harlem looking for extra money during the Depression " which seems unlikely since the depression was over 3 years in the future then. -- Infrogmation

Not notable enough to include

[edit]

Notability of Bobby Crosby, Dontrelle Willis and the other recently born sports person? Does simply signing a major league contract make one notable?

Dontrelle Willis did win rookie of the year, he should be listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.100.112.247 (talk) 00:46, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Harrisburg

[edit]

1971 - Harrisburg Six: The Reverend Philip Berrigan and five others are indicted on charges of conspiring to kidnap Henry Kissinger and of plotting to blow up the heating tunnels of federal buildings in Washington, DC.

Is this really true? There is no entry for Harrisburg Six, and Phillip Berrigan doesn't mention this plan. Too controverial? Or just plain false? 69.37.9.101 01:35, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[1], [2], [3] and many other articles make reference to this.
however, is an idictment worthy of being listed as an important event? Kingturtle 01:55, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HAL 9000

[edit]

Can we add HAL 9000 to the births section? I think that it is quite a cool date and there was a huge birthday party for him at the U of I in 1997. Georgipetrov 17:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added HAL9000 to the event section. Perhaps he should be in the births section instead. Which year do you think should be listed? The film used 1992, but the book used 1997. --Autopilot (talk) 20:59, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Led Zeppelin

[edit]

Led Zeppelin's wiki says their first album was released January 13, not 12.

How is Led Zeppelin I notable? Don't get me wrong, I love the band but I don't see how the world changed. -- Borameer 22:00, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The world changed" isn't the standard for notability -- "has multiple independent references about it" is. See WP:MUSIC. Susan Davis 22:27, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...that said, I think it's a weak choice for one of this date's selected anniversaries. Susan Davis 22:28, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rules is rules :-D It just makes things difficult when we have to deny other people who list their band album releases as non-notable. Thanks for the update though. -- Borameer 23:49, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First Hispanic-American in space

[edit]

I noticed that you have deleted my entry for January 12, in which I said that "Space shuttle Columbia blasted off with a crew that included the first Hispanic-American in space, Dr. Franklin R. Chang-Diaz." Not such a specialist in Space issues, just copied this from NYT On This Day page. If Chang-Diaz is not the first Hispanic-American, it seems that NYT also is wrong. Janks (talk) 00:49, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The first Hispanic was Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez and Hispanic-American is not enough of a distinction (Hispanic vs. Hispanic-American) to warrant mention[4]. Being of a certain ethnic background doesn't make for global notability in and of itself. What is really the difference between someone who is Hispanic, African, blond, cross-eyed, etc. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 01:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Titus Andronicus

[edit]

I removed the entry *1592 - Titus Andronicus is first staged at the Rose Theatre. - I couldn't see a reference to this at either Titus Andronicus or Rose Theatre. If anyone can find a ref, then please add it back into the article. - NJJ.Rocher (talk) 14:42, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

In the existing version of this page is a reference to Super Bowl III. Since this event has its own page, I edited the Jan 12 page to link to it. Someone reverted that edit. I'm restoring the link because it is useful and does not violate any style guideline. Jetlife2 (talk) 21:32, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Superbowls are not notable events. They happen every year. There is no evidence that this particular Superbowl is any different than any other. The claim that it was responsible for "catapulting professional football into a new era" is not supported in the Superbowl III article. The event should be removed as non-notable. Please review WP:DAYS for the applicable style guideline. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 23:01, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that point of view...I might even agree with you - but my point above was not that the event was notable - somebody else had previously put the event itself in there. All I did was edit the existing line to add the link. So my entire edit was from Super Bowl III to Super Bowl III. That was the edit that you reverted and I still don't see why. I could have understood if you took out the whole line to delete the event entirely, if you thought it to be non-notable. Can you explain further? Thanks Jetlife2 (talk) 18:42, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct. I made a mistake. I meant to remove the entire entry. I hit edit on the wrong diff. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:16, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 25 May 2012

Zayn Malik, January 12, 1993 Deelax (talk) 21:34, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Please provide additional information on which section this should be added to, and why this person is notable. A reference would be appreciated. Dana boomer (talk) 23:14, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Death section

[edit]

I noticed that Bass Reeves is not listed in the deaths section, but the Wiki article about him shows a date: Bass Reeves SmilingTexan (talk) 20:10, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
