Needed introduction

[edit]

This page *really* needs an introduction to explain the context and what the things are. contract is very vague and one of the two terms in the description is redlinked! 83.217.109.164 (talk) 16:17, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History of the different JSRs is needed too. Syced (talk) 06:15, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that JSR 168 Portlet Catalog be merged into Java Portlet Specification. There is not enough content right now for two separate articles. Even if there was, catalogs of portlets are not something that are notable enough to require more than a section. Syced (talk) 06:15, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Portlet

[edit]

The concept of portlet is distinct from one specific implementation of a portlet. Having portlet redirect here does no favors to either article. The JPS article is confusing because it tries to discuss the specification before the concept of portlets and has no where to refer readers to get information about them. I've tried to address this with a background section, but that mostly lampshades how clunky it is to conflate the two topics. Just like applet is distinct from Java Applet, portlet should be distinct from the concept of Java's implementation. If they are discussed on the same page, the page title should be portlet and the Java Specification should be a subtopic. Ost (talk) 21:36, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
