Tedford Curse

[edit]

Dilfer won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000 but the others have not made significant impacts in the NFL yet. Under his tutelage, Trent Dilfer, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, David Carr, Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers have blossomed into 1st round picks in the NFL.

David Carr and Joey Harrington enter their pivotal fourth year in the league this year (2005) and Boller is preparing to enter his third. It is still too early to call these young quarterbacks busts, though Akili Smith surely fits the label. The "Tedford Curse" is the name of the overblown theory that Tedford's quarterbacks are somehow not suited to the NFL. However, this theory is mostly media invention, for the same statistical reason Toyota Camry is the most stolen vehicle in America. There are more Camry's stolen in America because there are more Camry's in America. Jeff Tedford has more QBs failing to become a star at the NFL, because Jeff Tedford has more QBs in the NFL. This theory (mostly concocted by the media) also fails to consider the possibility that Tedford's QB's do not receive as good of coaching in the pros as they did in college.

In the case of David Carr, the one year he spent under Tedford at Fresno State was when he was a freshman and threw only 11 passes that season.

  • I edited this (and cut most of it) because it strikes me as an opinionated rant that doesn't really fit with Wikipedia and its NPOV policy. I do think the "Tedford Curse" deserves to be addressed in this article, but in a balanced and measured way. Hopefully my edit does that. Jsnell 00:52, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Time at Fresno State

[edit]

Wasn't Tedford the offensive coordinator for the latter part of his stint at Fresno State?

David Carr

[edit]

David Carr's name appears under the list of QBs whom have played under Tedford and have been drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft, but is it really right to give Tedford credit for Carr when they only spent one season together(Carr's freshman year) and Carr threw a total of 11 passes that year?

Tedford status for 2013

[edit]

Let's wait for real news on whether Tedford is or is not losing his job after the 2012 miserable season. Also, let's try to keep this objective. This is a living person, plus statements here should be neutral anyway. Pechmerle (talk) 02:12, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The university has announced the firing. BrokenSphereMsg me 19:20, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's official now. And the article retains a reasonably neutral tone about his career at Cal as a whole. --Pechmerle (talk) 00:39, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
