hatnotes not necessary on unambiguous titles[edit]

@Acroterion: Re: this edi: Per WP:NOTAMB, There is no need to direct readers to other articles that have a similar name when the title already unambiguous. Hatnotes should generally only be placed when the title someone may have clicked on is reasonably ambiguous, in order to direct them to the intended article with the more obscure or specific usage. The Jefferson National Forest in Virginia, while a redirect to George Washington and Jefferson National Forests , appears to be the primary topic, thus the meaning most people are intending to find. But, as it is potentially ambiguous, it would be more appropriate to place the following hatnote on George Washington and Jefferson National Forests: {{Redirect|Jefferson National Forest|the forest in Montana|Jefferson National Forest (Montana)}}. Someone searching for, clicking on, or reading Jefferson National Forest (Montana) already reasonably knows that they're on the article about the Montana forest, doesn't need to be pointed to an article about a different forest that merely shares the same name. For similar reasoning, the unambiguous "James Brown (Archdeacon of Perth)" doesn't start with "for the American funk singer, see James Brown", while the potentially ambiguous "James Brown" directs readers to the other usages at James Brown (disambiguation). Lastly, when hatnote redirects are used, only the focal article(s) should be linked, as explained at WP:HATEXTRA. Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 04:29, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
