Comedienne/comedian/stand up comic[edit]

Someone has taken issue with the description of Eclair as a "comedienne." It should be noted that on her official site she calls herself a "stand up comic" but also self-refers as a "comedienne" rather than a "comedian." I was always unde rthe impression that we go with what subjects say they are, rather than imposing our own contrary labels? Nick Cooper (talk) 12:23, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eclair[edit]

Article could do with something about when and why she adopted the name Eclair. I assume it's just a stage name, but her daughter seems to go by the name of Phoebe Eclair-Powell, which suggests it may be semi-official. Does anyone have any hard info? Father's career[edit]

The "Early life" section begins: "Eclair was born to English parents in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where her father, Derek Hargreaves, who served as a major in the British Army, was serving in the Royal Marines, Parachute Regiment, Green Howards, Trucial Oman Scouts, and BRIXMIS, had been posted in 1952." The sentence is grammatical nonsense, and needs to be reworked/split, but I'm not sure how without knowing more of the facts. BRIXMIS was the British Commanders'-in-Chief Mission to the Soviet Forces in Germany, so it seems very unlikely her father was involved in that – or in the Trucial Oman Scouts – when based in Malaysia: I imagine these are later phases of his career. Does anyone have more info on this? Eric Pode lives (talk) 11:25, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Still a mess. I have added a "clarify" tag. Eric Pode lives (talk) 10:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The best way to clean this sentence is to delete "was serving in the Royal Marines, Parachute Regiment, Green Howards, Trucial Oman Scouts, and BRIXMIS," as superfluous detail. If those parts of her father's military career have some bearing on her personality, public engagement, or career, the connection should be stated expressly, substantiated, and developed. 108.44.65.86 (talk) 13:59, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. (I'd forgotten about this.) I see my "clarify" tag lasted 8 months until this edit, when an IP added a source but didn't change the wording. I'm going to prune as you suggest. Eric Pode lives (talk) 21:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just A Minute[edit]

This article describes Just A Minute as a quiz. Is not Just A Minute a contest rather than a quiz?Vorbee (talk) 07:56, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
