Update his Browns playing time to 2019 as he does not play for the Browns at the present time. 85.253.200.56 (talk) 15:00, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed name change of controversy section from "Racism Controversy" to "Social Media controversy"

[edit]

While he called Dustin Fox a "cracker", I think the bigger theme is he threatened both Fox and several fans on social media and race was only involved in one instance while violence was included in all of his posts. Best, GPL93 (talk) 15:21, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think the entire thing should just go under the Cleveland Browns section as my last edit shows. It reeks of WP:RECENTISM to have an entire section devoted to this incident. Eagles 24/7 (C) 15:24, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The incident certainly doesn't belong in the lede unless and until there is evidence that it has had a significant effect on his career. And neither does it merit coverage in two different sections in the article body. Further, per WP:BLP sensationalist wording as present in the Browns section isn't merited at all. 86.143.228.144 (talk) 15:31, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
he got released the day after and is unlikely to be picked up due to his racist conduct. that is evidence enough of a significant effect on career. Quenreerer (talk) 15:39, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Can you cite a source for that? Because otherwise, that is pure supposition. 86.143.228.144 (talk) 15:47, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm opposed to the name change. Simply, why change? it was a racism controversy.Quenreerer (talk) 15:39, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Given that only one of the sources currently cited mentions racism, that would seem debatable. 86.143.228.144 (talk) 15:46, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The vast majority of sources about the controversy (Including Fox News, CBS News and ESPN) focus more on the fact that he threatened multiple people. And, as stated above, race was only involved with Fox. Even with Fox, he didn't threaten him because he was white but because Fox criticized his play. Best, GPL93 (talk) 16:00, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
there are numerouse articles mentioning is as racism or racist rant, etc. also, why aren't you posting from your account? Quenreerer (talk) 16:01, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not posting from an account because I don't have one. I saw this article mentioned on WP:ANI, and decided to take a look. 86.143.228.144 (talk) 16:09, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

the use of racial slurs does not fit the definition of 'racism' - social media controversy is more apt here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.225.34.185 (talk) 16:12, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

it most certainly does. racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.. Jermaine, at the very least, has shown prejudice and antagonism towards Fox for his race. Also, why are people who obviously know how to use the talk page use IP addresses instead of accounts. I hope you're not IP hoping. Quenreerer (talk) 16:22, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Again, Wikipedia does not base content on contributors' personal opinions on what constitutes racism. 86.143.228.144 (talk) 16:25, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
no we base it on sources. sources that haven been given in page. now show us your real account sock IP. Quenreerer (talk) 17:01, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have already explained why I am commenting here - due to the thread on WP:ANI, where the article was mentioned. I suggest that rather than throwing around further baseless accusations of socking, you either stick to the subject, or take your allegations to WP:ANI. You would do well to respond there anyway, since things aren't exactly looking good for you.
As for basing things on sources, yes we do. Which is why I pointed out that of the sources cited, only one mentioned racism. If there are more, they need to be linked here, so a proper judgement can be made as to what section title is merited. And then maybe we can reach a consensus. 86.143.228.144 (talk) 19:03, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
