[edit]The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Jim Mattox/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.
I edited this to give substantive information concerning Jim Mattox, one of the most controversial politicians in Texas during the 1980's and 1990's. His association with the notorious Clinton Manges, the successor to the sinister and corrupt "Duke of Duval", George Parr, is one of the defining threads in Mattox's career. Manges, once listed by Forbes as one of America's richest men, was convicted in 1997 of a federal conspiracy charge in connection with an offshore oil property and sentenced to 27 months in federal prison. Another defining thread was Mattox's claim in 1992 that the popular Ann Richards was a cocaine user. Richards went on to defeat Mattox in the Democratic gubernatorial runoff and defeated the Republican candidate in the general election. Richards' popularity and influence in the Democratic party contributed to the eventual demise of Jim Mattox in politics. |
