Drug Abuse History[edit]

My memory is foggy, but I remember Jim Vance offering to resign on air after the Marion Berry drug scandal because Jim Vance himself had at some point had a drug problem. There was a popular outcry for him to stay so he did not resign. I cannot find a good source to back this up right now. Did find a mention that he co-founded a drug clinic of some sort: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1355/is_/ai_15991262m KeithWright (talk) 20:53, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was one time in the 1980s, where he said on the air that he was a 4 pack a day smoker. This was before he left for treatment.

Is there any actual verification that there was hate mail regarding Vance? He was a beloved figure in D.C. journalism, and that cut neatly across superficial lines like race. In recent years, the Washington Post has become more ideological and partisan, so it may be not as credible a source as it was in its Watergate heyday. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.152.216.213 (talk) 23:02, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
