Note that Louisiana's Constitution, until amended during the administration of John McKeithen in 1966, only allowed a governor to serve for one consecutive term of office. Therefore Jimmie Davis was not "defeated" for governor in 1948. Rather, he was forced to step aside due to term limits.

Source for information about term limits: Louisiana: A History (Louisiana History textbook, 1984 edition). Alternate source: termlimits.org newsletter, December 2001.

The Wikisource page s:Author:Houston Davis attributes Go, Mississippi to this Governor of Louisiana. Does anyone know if that is true? The sources I have found all say it was someone else with a similar name, but that person isn't well known. John Vandenberg (chat) 13:48, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
