Trimming résumé-like content[edit]

I removed a lot of content from the "Notes" column of the table at Jimmy_Awards#Winners_and_finalists. Most of it was information that was out of scope and unreferenced (a lot of "graduated from X" / "currently studying at X"). I tried to keep it to mostly named roles in significant productions (including national tours or significant off-broadway productions), or Broadway debuts (even if in a minor role, or as an understudy).

I also removed the "Notable Jimmy Award nominees" section (last version that has it), which was basically a list of nominees not listed in the table (i.e. not finalists) who went on to do any work on Broadway or in national tours. I think this veered toward WP:IINFO. If we mention any nominees other than the finalists listed in the table, it should probably only be if they're capital-N Notable. (No-one in the section had an article at the time I removed it. Some of them might qualify though - e.g. Christian Thompson originated Smokey Robinson in Ain't Too Proud (musical) on Broadway.) Splitting "Winners and finalists" table[edit]

This table is large enough that it already impacts the article's readability. And the awards are only 10 years old, so it's only going to get worse. I think we should consider one or both of the following:

Split into a separate article. Call it something like List of Jimmy Award winners (not fully precise, as we only list winners of the main "Best Actor"/"Best Actress" awards, but I can't think of an alternative that's precise without being stupidly verbose).
Only list the two winners for each year, not all finalists (of which there have been 8 in recent years)

Number 2 might be a bit drastic, given that it's normal to list the shortlist of nominees in list articles about awards (e.g. Academy Award for Best Director). But then, for major awards like that, the nominees are almost certain to be independently notable, which is not the case here. Could be interesting to see how other articles on more 'niche' awards handle this. Colin M (talk) 22:38, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An alternative option could be to create two new additional pages, one entitled "Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress" and another entitled, "Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor" and format these pages in a way similar to pages like Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Then this page could/would function as a historical summary of the Jimmys (i.e. Tony Award). Though notability may be prove to be difficult to justify for the hypothetical articles and may borderline on fancruft. Mariacricket (talk) 22:49, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense, and would be a good way around the naming difficulty. I would be surprised if notability was challenged for such list articles. The award itself has received lots of coverage in major national sources, and splitting out lists of winners is common practice when dealing with awards on Wikipedia. And the winners do tend to get reported in RS every year (albeit, mostly theatre-focused publications like Playbill/Broadwayworld, and local publications from the winners' city or state).
