Des Moines quote

[edit]

Can anyone find a first hand source for that quote from the Des Moines Register? Bill Bryson is notoriously bad for accuracy, and I've gone through the New York Times archives on the case (which I do have access to) and have found no reference to the Bryson quoted "disrespectful tone" story. Someone has tagged this article with notability, cleanup and OR/unverified claims tags. I'd like to request that these tags be speedily removed, for the following reasons:

  • Wilson's case is clearly notable. It received widespread international coverage at the time, drawing attention from at least four continents and making him internationally famous. Also, it's still being talked about now. I've included recent sources for the sake of verifiability: Dudziak's book, pulished in 2007, and Bryson's book, published in 2006.
  • I'm not sure what "cleanup" is requested, since the person who put the tag here hasn't explained why.
  • There is categorically no orginal research in this article, and no unverified claims. Every word is properly sourced, as you can verify by checking the sources for yourself.

I'm going to assume good faith on the part of the person who put those tags there, but the tags seem utterly unjustifiable, and the person in question hasn't bothered explaining them. It looks suspiciously like a case of slapping random tags onto an article for no conceivable reason. Unless there are any objections, I'll remove the tags in a few days. legacy in folk music

[edit]

i was surprised not to find any reference to his lasting memory in folk ballads. ewan maccoll performed (and i'm pretty sure wrote, but i don't know) 'the ballad of jimmy wilson'. with this, all the obligatory maccoll covers, and 'poor jimmy wilson' by the strawbs, covered by sandy denny, i'm sure it's notable enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.110.90.75 (talk) 19:16, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
