Those boxes at the bottom of the article make it sound like he is claiming to be the rightful emperor of China, but surely that is not the case. Someone shouldn't be identified as the pretender to a throne if they aren't pretending to be anything. Everyking (talk) 12:41, 3 July 2015 (UTC) Um no sorry he may not cliam it but he is stillthe pretender in in pretences — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:40:C001:8713:452E:6AE4:8966:889A (talk) 15:55, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jin Yuzhang

[edit]

Hello! I saw your edit about how Jin Yuzhang "does not care for the claim [as heir to the Qing] nor acknowledge it". Is there a specific source that says he doesn't acknowledge himself as heir to the Qing? What is it exactly that he refuses to acknowledge? Thanks!Geographyinitiative (talk) 04:13, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I relied on a cached article of his interview with Southern Weekend. In it he said that he doesn't recognize himself as the head of the clan, nor does he think it is possible to track down who is still in the clan and who is not. And in any case - does it really matter? There is no reliable source indicating that the Aisin-Gioro clan still exists apart from being a historical curiosity being seized on by journalists (and Wikipedia editors), rather than an organic entity that functions as a coherent organization unto itself. Therefore I think it is totally inaccurate to describe him as even the "nominal head of the Aisin Gioro clan" as such a thing no longer exists. Colipon+(Talk) 01:52, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

[edit]

I have downloaded a photo File:Jin Yuzhang.jpg is it possible I could add the photo to this page. Jjsgood35 (talk) 00:10, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Should we put the Dragon or the symbol of the house of Aisin-Gioro?

[edit]

I thought perhaps we should put an image on the page. Would a the logo of Aisin-Gioro work, or an imperial dragon? Luke848 (talk) 04:51, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would not include either unless there's some evidence that he used one to represent himself personally, per MOS:FLAGPLACEHOLDER. Unfortunately, articles like these are often very sparsely illustrated because that is better than including misleading illustrations, akin to MOS:FLAGCRUFT. I'm thinking of ways to make the page better. This page gets an alarming amount of attention, 7,800+ views a month, noteable for someone so obscure and hidden. Do we have a photo of him or something we can put? Luke848 (talk) 05:10, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the impulse! It's a rule of thumb I had to learn also. I am not sure if there's a photo of him, which is troubling. Remsense ‥  05:11, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Remsense I've found an image of him that is not subject to copyright, should we upload it and put it on the page? Heres the image: https://x.com/iehutin/status/1447236723939975171 Luke848 (talk) 09:05, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...where is the indication that this photo is not copyrighted? Remsense ‥  09:36, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a thorough search with google image software. There are no websites, news article, or biographies with the photo applicable which would indicate its a free-for-use image, and the only sites with this image are posts on Reddit, Quora, and X. Luke848 (talk) 10:07, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right, so there's no indication that it has been licensed such that we can use it. Remsense ‥  10:22, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
c'mon man 😭 Luke848 (talk) 10:58, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I feel you! I really wish there were more options, especially for historical articles where we don't even have historically meritorious depictions. But, it truly is better to say nothing at all than to say something misleading. Remsense ‥  11:00, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
fair enough 😔 Hes probably gonna die soon anyway so maybe its best just to not bother Luke848 (talk) 11:21, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I think this is a very worthwhile article you've noticed. I'd also like to work on it some. Remsense ‥  11:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think we could improve?
I still think its highly appropriate that we should add the image of the House of Aisin-Gioro. He does confirm he identifies as the head of the house. I think the matter of him using the symbol as a personal signature is somewhat irrelevant. If hes head of the house of Aisin-Gioro he should really have the symbol of Aisin-Gioro on his page. Just my thoughts. Luke848 (talk) 13:28, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I do agree with the plain statement in the policy of A flag (or other symbolic image) should not be used as an image placeholder, such as in biographical articles. Insofar as what we could improve—I haven't done any research yet, but I'm curious what if anything is written about him in the books I have. Remsense ‥  18:14, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
