Restructured and expanded article[edit]

I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions on the changes that I have made to this article. Rogermx (talk) 15:31, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From what I see, I can only say you did and still are doing a tremendous work on this page. As for improvements to come, I cannot judge but maybe some external links in the footnotes section are sometimes hard to understand at first glance (or in strange typo). Mysterious Criminal Antecedents?[edit]

I’ve been searching in vain for information regarding how exactly Joseph Profaci got into organized crime. It seems very mysterious. He was apparently the owner of a legitimate and successful olive oil importing business. No known information that I can find positions any links to the Mafia or organized crime until sometime in the mid-1920s at the earliest. The Colombo Family's Wikipedia article merely states that he had gathered a small criminal gang around him. Then he seems to have been almost ordained a family boss after the Castellammarese War and Luciano’s restructuring of the Italian crime families in NYC.

Can anyone find any information to fill in the period of the mob boss’s salad days and rise to power? What was the basis for this “small gang” he apparently had control over? What were their activities? When and what was his start in organized crime? He almost sounds like a real life Vito Corleone as described within The Godfather as far as the family's beginnings. That is, Corleone was never a member of any organized crime group. He started a legitimate olive oil importing business and used ruthless tactics to grow the business which ultimately evolved into an organized crime family with his original partners and hired men serving as “soldiers.”HistoryBuff14 (talk) 14:43, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
