Joe dreams of going to the Amazon?

The article saids that Joe dreams of going to the Amazon. Is there a source for that? "The Amazon" might be just a metaphor for the streets of Paris. AKoan (talk) 08:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it may also be a ma zone - lit. "my area" - a popular French slang reference to the female genitalia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.189.125.225 (talk) 16:26, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joe dreams of his Citroen Saxo? As the song was released in 1987 and the Saxo didn't enter production until 1996 that seems highly unlikely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.211.98.180 (talk) 14:31, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh god no. Saxo is obviously Saxophone. It's a common French abbreviation for a popular brass (wind?) instrument which happens to be heard throughout the song. This needs to be corrected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.42.90 (talk) 01:38, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, fixed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.42.90 (talk) 01:40, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative meaning

[edit]

Although the video and most translations suggest that Joe is a taxidriver, it might be just a visual representation.

A Taxi Dancer is someone (male or female) who is employed to go around being paid to dance with clients: the customers pay at the end of each dance; on occasion the end result is a sexual assignation. Taxi dance lessons are still taught, especially when it relates to the rhumba and tango.

Le taxi was a french version of this phrase; this would link with the slang phrase mentioned for l'Amazone.

In this reading, Joe is an itinerant taxi dancer who works at a number of regular places and is particularly strong at certain Latin American dances. The reference to 'soda' in the song is alluding to the fact that he needs alcohol to get going, rather than the usual translation as 'fuel for his taxi'.

Although this may be wrong, it seems a valid interpretation.
