Notability[edit]

Neither being an assistant professor nor an author inherently makes one notable. This needs sources establishing notability. Please do not remove tags without establishing notability. --Nat Gertler (talk) 03:58, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nat, you mean to tell me that an author who has had like fifteen books published in the last 30 years and been on all kinds of TV and radio shows is not notable? You had bette r delete half of Wikipedia then. If Block is not notable, no one is. Tenzingnineoneone (talk) 15:36, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sheer quantity of books published absolutely does not establish notability (see WP:AUTHOR), and there are no sources provided backing up the claim that he has been interviewed anywhere. --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:04, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Author tends to disagree with you. He has received much critical attention. Sure, sources could be added saying he has been interviewed, but now you're switching horses. 15+ books put out by huge publishing houses such as Random House definitely infer notability. Tenzingnineoneone (talk) 04:32, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"15+ books put out by huge publishing houses such as Random House definitely infer notability." Not by anything listed in WP:AUTHOR, no, and I have been through Articles For Deletion discussions where sheer quantity of publications failed to save an article about a writer. You claim "He has received much critical attention", all I'm asking for is that to be sourced. No switching horses here - the tag calls for sourcing of his notability, the first message in the talk section calls for sourcing, you saying that "sources could be added" is not the same as actually adding sources. --Nat Gertler (talk) 05:14, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I understand. What sources would make you happy, and I will dig them up. Tenzingnineoneone (talk) 22:04, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If making me happy was the goal, all we'd need is a pumpernickel bagel piled high with lox. In terms of establishing notability, however, what we need are significant sources talking about Block - not merely mentioning him in an aside, or quoting him on a topic, but talking about him and his work. Or, as WP:AUTHOR suggests, "multiple independent periodical articles or reviews" for his works.

Notability[edit]

I re-tagged the article for notability concern; it had been tagged years ago, and untagged by an editor who had added a couple of reviews... but those reviews were from non-notable sources (one is on a doctor's website, the other on a review blog site.) Both of those links are now dead.

Having said that, the New York Times reference in the article probably gets us about half the way to meeting notability guidelines. --Nat Gertler (talk) 00:43, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
