Which brand Mercury will go to[edit]

There were rumors saying Mercury will be on ECW after the PPV. That is in fact untrue. It was revealed by WWE at a live event the other day that Mercury will work on Smackdown or Raw going after either the US or IC title. It is most likely that he will go to Raw said Coachman.

Is this actually true? because i've read the houseshow reports and didn't see anything about Joey Mercury, or what brand he would go to after the Pay Per View...XRebekkahx 17:50, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Retirement[edit]

According to Maryland Championship Wrestling's Kelly Bell at the November 1st 2008 show "MCW Monster Mash" , "Joey Matthews" has quit professional wrestling to pursue other interests in Hollywood. Kelly says that MCW tried to get him to come address the crowd, but he refused. He is the masked man, in the dark match he faced Shelton while being bald, he had drug addictions that now could be used as a story line, in one SMACKDOWN episode the masked man apeared without a shirt and his body type looks like Adam's. Adam Birch/Joey Mercury was confirmed as the masked member of the Straight Edge Society. In a match against the Big Show on July 23, 2010, his mask was removed much in the same way CM Punk's mask was--wrapped by the Big Show's right arm while his left hand pulled his mask off. So, here you removed information because "Reference provided was to a video that must be purchased to verify WP:BLP claims." Interesting, because the source provided for his drug problems is http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2007/10/11/4567941.html, which isn't a video at all. Your next edit was this, where you removed information because "Reference provided was to a video that must be purchased to verify WP:BLP claims.", which is also incorrect, because if you look at the reference, http://www.rfvideo.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3561, you'll see a listing of question contained on the video, including "You dated Alexis Laree for a long time, how did you guys meet" and "You dated Christy Hemme for awhile, how soon did it get romantic between the two of you". Try actually looking at the references, before removing information please. Also, could you please point out to me the part in WP:SOURCE or WP:BLP or any other policy that says that videos cannot be used to verify info? Let's take this a point at a time. A video produced and distributed by an organization that specializes in kayfabe (storylines and acting in professional wrestling, for any interested third parties reading this) cannot be trusted as a reliable source. Neither can a magazine or website devoted to the same organization.
BLP states: "Wikipedia's sourcing policy, Verifiability, says that all quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation; material not complying with this may be removed. This policy extends that principle, adding that contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced should be removed immediately and without discussion." The discussion here is whether a video and magazine/webpage that could or could not be based on kayfabe can be considered a reliable source. In my view it cannot, so I deleted the claim.
Verifiability states: "Questionable sources are those with a poor reputation for checking the facts, or with no editorial oversight. Such sources include websites and publications expressing views that are widely acknowledged as extremist, or promotional, or which rely heavily on rumor and personal opinion. Questionable sources should be used only as sources of material on themselves, especially in articles about themselves...Questionable sources are generally unsuitable for citing contentious claims about third parties." Can you show that these sources have a reputation for checking facts and have editorial oversights? Again, I don't believe it can be done, as this can be based on a storyline in a particular league.
Some of the questions asked in the video (which was presented in the listed video reference) did support the claims, but only if you draw inference from them. For instance, let's take one question you listed: "You dated Christy Hemme for awhile, how soon did it get romantic between the two of you?" Now, what if the answer in the video was "You've got to be kidding. Why would I date her?" No reliability or verifiability there.
And finally, Verifiablity states: "Do not leave unsourced or poorly sourced material in an article if it might damage the reputation of living persons or organizations..." Exactly what I did. Claims that a person is a drug abuser and overdosed and was hooked on many drugs can be damaging to the person, if not true. And I don't feel it was sourced properly. So I removed it.
Tell you what. I'm willing to ask for a third party opinion of this. In fact, I will do so right now. There is a middle ground - we can't both be 100% right or wrong. Will you listen to a disinterested third party regarding both our issues?

Response to Third Opinion Request:
Disclaimers: I am responding to a third opinion request made at WP:3O. I have made no previous edits on Joey Mercury and have no known association with the editors involved in this discussion. The third opinion process (FAQ) is informal and I have no special powers or authority apart from being a fresh pair of eyes. Third opinions are not tiebreakers and should not be "counted" in determining whether or not consensus has been reached. My personal standards for issuing third opinions can be viewed here.

Opinion: It appears to me that slam.canoe.ca is a newspaper-owned site and the article was authored by a staff writer for that site. It should, I think, be a reliable source for the contentious BLP information in this edit. Neither the video nor the summary of the video is a sufficiently reliable source for the contentious BLP information in this edit, but note that the problem is the information in that edit about Mickie James (WP:BLP says, "This policy applies to BLPs, including any living person mentioned in a BLP even if not the subject of the article, and to material about living persons on other pages.") The video might or might not be sufficient as it pertains to information about Birch.

ECW's TNN deal had been cancelled by the time Birch debuted in late 2000, and their syndicated highlights show deal ran out at the end of that year, so at best Birch made a dozen or so televised appearances with ECW. He only made a handful of appearances with TNA. By comparison, he spent a straight year in WWE, appearing virtually every week on SmackDown (which had much higher ratings than TNA or ECW's shows). Birch has received far more exposure under the "Joey Mercury" name, and has wrestled at this name on global TV as recently as 2010. His last appearances with TNA were nine years ago and his last appearances with ECW were 12 years' ago. I think "Joey Mercury" is clearly the name by which more people would know him. Here's a clue. Nobody said Adam Birch was the notable name. Just that Matthews and Mercury were about equal. One shone twice as bright and half as long. Adam Birch is the commonality between them. Yokozuna (wrestler) but Samula Anoa'i, Afa Anoa'i and Sika Anoa'i (neither legal nor ringnames) but Rosey (wrestler) and his brother Reno Anoa'i (who has only ever been called Black Pearl). Appearance on Heat?[edit]

The Hurricane appeared on Heat on 3/28/2004 in a match against a "Joey... Joey Who?" It appears that this Joey competitor might be the same Joey that later worked as part of MNM.
