Name

In the Swedish Wiki his name is "Arfwedson", here it is both "Arfwedson" and "Arfvedson". We need to be consistent in some way or other, I think.--Mycomp (talk) 00:18, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A published (1915) list of members of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, based on the academy's own records, uses the spelling with "w", which is likely to be his own. Around the previous turn of the century, there was a trend to modernise and "swedify" the spelling of names. Arfvedson with "v" looks like an effect of that, because a lot of Wilhelms became Vilhems, to give an example using the same letters. Later in the 20th century, there was a habit to revert to people's own spelling in encyclopedias and biographical work. Tomas e (talk) 17:08, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
