random non-english warbling
[edit]hei john arne riise jeg lurte på om du kan besøk meg jeg heter per øistein johnsen pedersen og bor i ågårdvegen 15 kan du det svar så fort du kan hilsen per øisten velkommen...
- Sorry dude, this is the English Wikipedia... the first online translator I found gives me "hello john hearth riise I was wondering about you able attendance my I am heating per øistein johnsen pedersen and drill in ågårdvegen 15 able you facts answer saw look sharp you able bow per øisten welcome", lol. So arne = hearth.. aLii 09:22, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- It means something like "Hi Jon Arne Riise. I was wondering if you can visit me. I'm øistein johnsen pedersen and live at 15 ågårdvegen (stream farm street). Can you answer as soon as you can. Greetings, per øisten. Welcome..." Jizz 15:21, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
nickname - SMS-kongen (The SMS King)
[edit]When did he ever have this nickname? is there any evidence to back it up? I think it should be removed personally. aLii 00:27, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, this is a good qeustion actually. This has a negativ spin on it and should be reomoved imi2 16:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- My above comment is out-of-date, that is why I had struck-through it. The details needed to back up the nickname claim have since been added to the article, and I for one am perfectly happy with the SMS-kongen nickname staying on the page. It's definitely a funny story :) aLii 18:42, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Please see this Google search. "SMS King" is not the nickname, "SMS kongen" is, and I'd say it is notable with 750+ hits. aLii 03:44, 19 August 2006 (UTC)- Should have used quotation marks so this is the more correct search. Still there's a good number of articles showing that the Norwegian press have given him this nickname. Note: to be a valid nickname it doesn't have to be given to you by fans. Anyway I personally am not going to put it back again, but I'm sure given enough time someone else will. aLii 09:16, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Like I said, slander. And some of these sites are referring to this incorrect wikipedia. When I search using SMS-king [1] [], I get 98500 hits, none about Riise. This is not any nick-name regarded by LFC-fans, this is slander [User:imi2|imi2], 03:50, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- By the way of educating you; Calling someone SMS Kongen isn't slander. Publically calling someone, for instance, a thief could be libellous, if you had no proof that they were a thief. There's plenty of proof in this case, and also calling someone "Phone King" is hardly defamatory. aLii 09:26, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

categorization?
[edit]Why is this categorized under Category:Mobile phone culture? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 01:33, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Probaby because of some tabloid-ruckus he caused last summer, when it was revealed that he had send practically the same type of SMS-flirt to a majority of female norwegian celebrities, hehe. That's probably why they gave him the nickname the SMS-king as well :P --80.213.183.252 04:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Youth teams?
[edit]Did Riise actually play for Sportsklubben Rollon? Infact, who are Sportsklubben Rollon? I've removed the edit for now, aLii 17:53, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
statistics
[edit]There has to be a mistake, he can't have played 272 league games for Liverpool in five years since there are only 38 games a year in the EPL! Dr.rajkumar 21:37, 28 November 2006
- You're right, I just noticed. I'll update based on soccerbase' stats (167 played for LFC) Whilding87 22:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
bankrupt?, your kidding, right?
Nope he was bankrupt for a short time in 2007, like many other footballers. johnnybriggs (talk) 18:40, 24 September 2009 (UTC) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/6509565.stm

[edit]Wasn't John Arne Riise born in Sunndalsøra, not Ålesund? According to this he was(norwegian text): [2].--Frohrstrand (talk) 13:46, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
own goal with last kick of the game????????????
[edit]how can someone "score an own goal with virtually the last kick of the game" with a .....header!!!! whoops! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sharptommy (talk • contribs) 15:49, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- When you're John Are Riise, you can fail that much! :<<<<<<<<<<<<< ← chandler 15:55, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Who's John Are Riise?
The correct spelling is at the top of the page ffs.
National caps
[edit]The infobox currently list caps for Norway and Norway U-21. The Football Association of Norway also keeps track on even younger national teams. See John Arne Riise. Is this something that should be included? Rettetast (talk) 16:00, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like a reasonable idea, although the years aren't listed for the national U15-19 teams. Is there a way to group them together in some way? Like maybe "Norway youth team" or "Norway U15–19"? It's not standard practice, I'm sure, but these caps are really minor in terms of his career, especially a sole U19 cap and two U17 caps. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)WIKIPROJECT ATHLETICS NEEDS YOU! 17:49, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- The years are there. you just have to press the number of games you get a full list of games with dates. I don't think it is a good idea to group them together. Better to leave them out or set a cut off point. Rettetast (talk) 18:14, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Use the data to add on the years played at that level and put them in the infobox. Alternatively, this information could be summarised in the "International career" section if you feel they aren't important enough for the box. We really have nothing to lose by adding them! I think there is a guideline that says that the infobox should sum up facts from the article. But maybe more important for the development of the infobox. I think I'll do both. List the facts in the infobox and say that he played on several of Norway youth teams. Rettetast (talk) 18:29, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I added them to the infobox. I'm not sure. It can be argued that it gives undue weight to something that is really not that important. Rettetast (talk) 18:58, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

From “Playing style” to “Style of play”
[edit]I’ve changed the heading “playing style” to “style of play”, which is more widely used on English Wikipedia pages.
However, I’m not aware of any consensus as to the phrasing of such headings on individual footballers’ Wikipedia articles, so I’m leaving this on the talk page should anybody object or propose an alternative. Foxmilder (talk) 01:48, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
