Additional siblings[edit]

John Bird had a third brother named Richard who was also a silkman living in Coventry. He was the eldest son and was in partnership with his father, William. He remained unmarried and died in about 1725 leaving much of his property to his nephew George Cotton. Secondary source material appears to be almost non-existent, however, an extract from a book in the process of being published provides a glimpse.^[1] This is backed up by a published copy of Richard's will, available as a download from the UK National Archive, free to those who register (some difficulty deciphering the handwritten text).^[2] This document also provides the names of at least four other siblings: sisters, Mary, who married David Milne; Katherine (Catherine) who married John Cotton; Margaret who married Nathaniel Allsop and another brother named Robert who was alive at the time of the will (1724).
