John Campbell (general)[edit]

There is a fuller article in Wikipedia on this same general called John Campbell (of Strachur). 85.0.220.59 20:24, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

I don't (necessarily) want to move John Campbell of Strachur but for some reason the discussion page for John Campbell (British Army officer) (i.e. the article about John Campbell of Stonefield) redirects to the discussion page for John Campbell of Strachur! Obviously this is a major error and needs to be fixed. 78.146.61.64 (talk) 15:19, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • John Campbell (British Army officer)John Campbell of Stonefield — The page should be renamed because the disambiguation page lists 14 other notable British Army officers of the same name, so the present label isn't precise enough. The Scottish historical convention is to differentate using the place of birth, e.g. "John Campbell, of Strachur", "John Campbell, of Stonefield", etc. But as place of birth isn't known for all of the John Campbells listed on Wikipedia, for consistency's sake perhaps all the John Campbell pages should be named according their dates of birth and death? — 78.146.61.64 (talk) 15:13, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Father's name[edit]

According to other sources (e.g. http://www.thepeerage.com/p12711.htm#i127104 and http://histfam.familysearch.org/getperson.php?personID=I242201&tree=Nixon), his father was Colin Campbell of Strachur, not "Admiral John Campbell."76.188.98.89 (talk) 18:53, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
