Not a fan site[edit]

This article is filled with florid, POV comments. Also, it is uncited where needed and cited where unnecessary. This is definitely not a B-class article. Please remove the POV and provide proper references, so the Fan Site tag can be removed. J M Rice (talk) 18:11, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:VADM John Bulkeley 1988 NR edit.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on August 19, 2010. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2010-08-19. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. : Thanks! howcheng {chat} 17:36, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

John D. Bulkeley
Vice Admiral John Duncan Bulkeley (1911–1996) was a United States Navy officer who received the Medal of Honor for his leadership of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Three in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He also piloted the boat that evacuated Douglas MacArthur from the Philippines during the Battle of Corregidor, and he fought in the invasion of Normandy as well. Bulkeley retired from the Navy in 1988, after 55 years of service.Photo credit: Robert Lucier, USN

Why is the Admiral's MOH hanging from only one hook?[edit]

In the portrait, VAD Bulkeley is displaying his Medal of Honor depending from only one hook of the anchor (the other side is swinging free with its ring attached). Since this is an official portrait, and he (or someone) obviously put some attention into how his decorations are displayed, I was wondering if perhaps there was some symbolic meaning to this. I just looked closely at the presentation ceremony JPEG and, while I can't see the rings directly, the "angle of the dangle" of the star suggests that it was hanging from (the same) one ring when it was presented to him. Patrickwooldridge (talk) 09:21, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio[edit]

A just deleted a lot of the florid crap from this article. It was all copyright violation stuff from his eulogy. Someone should be ashamed. Rklawton (talk) 03:29, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

jfk section could use work[edit]

joe kennedy got jfk the pt boat gig to get him out of dc, where intelligence was concerned about his dating inga somebody, a journalist linked to high up nazis. (i do not think she was a spy, but her loyalties were questioned.)

he was medically unfit to command a pt boat, due to his bad back linked to his addison's disease. he got his boat sunk, and would likely have been courtmartialed if not for who his dad was, instead he got a medal and a movie. movie treatment written by john hershey, who was dating his sister at the time.

so bulkeley was likely complicit in making a bad military decision for political reasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:48:C601:50E0:855B:3FFC:E323:2D1D (talk) 04:59, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
