Place of birth[edit]

The San Francisco Chronicle obituary says that Mr. Dawson was born in Detroit. The Los Angeles Times obituary says that he was born in San Francisco. And I've been having an online discussion with his brother, who assures me that Mr. Dawson was born in Chicago -- see User talk:3GirlsDad#John Dawson. The New Riders of the Purple Sage article also says that he was from Chicago. Can anyone provide a reliable reference for Mr. Dawson being born in Chicago? If not, what should this article say? I'm not sure what to think. My current inclination is to leave the article the way it is now -- Chicago -- but I'd be interested in the opinions of other editors. Thanks. You know my vote...Chicago

Mudwaters, one option for the article would be to do as the NY Times obit did and make no mention of the "Place of birth" or early life details whatsoever. Since there is obviously so much erroneous information going around AND since it is unlikely that anyone will come up with wiki-verifiable evidence (birth certificate; birth announcement etc.) you simply start the article at ...His musical career started in 19..... and go from there. Two benefits are derived. 1) The question is eliminated from contention and 2) you remain kosher in the wiki-sense of "verifiable". Most of what is in that part of the article is accurate. My edits of "Chicago" early life are of course accurate but as you have pointed out lack verification. 3GirlsDad 03:18, 24 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3GirlsDad (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I thought of that too. It's probably a good idea. Or we can wait a while and see what other editors say, if anything. "P.S." I am signed in to my page and I use the 4 tildes to "sign" but it still says "unsigned". I am such a novice. 3GirlsDad 03:16, 30 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3GirlsDad (talkcontribs)
