BTW[edit]

I too worked on Red Beard design during this period 1956-60. 81.155.194.224 (talk) 14:01, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you meet John or are you in contact with anyone who may have a photo of him we could use? Thruxton (talk) 19:04, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately no. We didn't work together or even on the same site, and I was completely focussed on weapon design. Strangely tho' I encountered him after we both left and moved into civilian life. I became head of engineering at a company that was a major supplier of components to his company (Lansing Bagnal). So my production counterparts had frequent contacts with him. Life throws out some strange co-incidences. Will inquire of them. 81.155.194.224 (talk) 10:44, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AWRE Director[edit]

Anyone have anything useful on Nyman Levin, appointed Director to succeed Sir William Penney? In a recent conversation his son Dr Peter Levin disclosed that Nyman Levin had patented LCDs in 1934 (an idea before its time, now found in every household); was an active and notable anti-fascist campaigner against Moseley's Blackshirts in London's East End in the 1930's; worked on radar during WW2, was the first civilian ashore in France on D-Day (pretty notable in itself); then worked for the Admiralty Scientific Service before being headhunted for AWRE. According to his son was offered a knighthood but died 1965 prematurely. I believe these matters alone qualifies Levin as a notable person, yet there is no Wiki bio, nor any other bio as far as I can discover. Ex-AWRE staff may know better? 81.155.194.224 (talk) 12:20, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I just found this would be interested to see it worked up as an article Thruxton (talk) 18:36, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Same person?[edit]

Could the Major Dolphin on this Gestapo-wanted-list be John Dolphin? -> https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/hitlers-black-book/person/1773/dolphin/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zsasz (talkcontribs) 22:43, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
